43427, relocating front licence plate
Posted by 96eclipse2nr, Mar-24-03 11:33 AM
in an attempt to reclaim the stylish look of our front ends iv opted to relocate the front licence plate to the center of my grille. right now i have it on the stock brackets. who all has done this? i know it will block air to the radiator somewhat but has anyone noticed that big of a difference. does your car run hotter or anything?? also, have you had any probs with the cops saying your licence plate is mounted too low to see? tia!

How did you guys mount it? I have a chicken wire grill (97 style front) and I want to try to kinda mount it at a 45 degree angle, you know, so it wouldn't block air too much. Haven't really thought of a good way to do it though.

I just stuck mine on the dash in the far right corner. The front end looks nice and clean with no license plate. And I haven't gotten pulled over for it......yet.

A guy down here with a WRX has a "License plate sticker" in the lower right corner of his window. I thought I heard him say that he got it from DPS. It looks really clean and alot better than sticking it on the front of the dash or keeping it on the front bumper IMO. Something to think about.

I had my license plate on the dash for a while till I got pulled over for it (well, not having a plate on the bumper actually). The cop informed me that they prefer you have the plate under the seat instead of the dash because it's a major safety hazard when you wreck and it'll go flying. Just something to keep in mind.

I have mine "in" the bumper and haven't noticed any problems with overheating or anything. The cops however like to harass me aout not being able to see it. (even though you'd have to be blind not to) excuses, excuses...

i have mine in the air dam. no problems with heating up but i did have a problem with inspection once. i have it rigged in there with a hanger and the dude told me that it had to be bolted. he didnt say anything about the location of it tho. Solution: got it inspected somewhere else. :thumbsup

did yours come thta way when you bought it? Mine did and i get the same harassment from time to time. Last time i was stopped they told me i didn't have a front plate. I explained where it was located and they bitched at me saying i was purposely trying to hide the plate. NOne of the other 'clipses i've seen around here have it where mine is.
