43388, For People Who Know a lot About HIDs Posted by 9d9Mitsu, Mar-24-03 06:35 AM
I have been looking at some of your kits in the box and I see 2 ballasts, 2 ignitors, and 2 bulbs. I just purchased a Hella kit off of someone and got 2 ballasts and 2 bulbs (5k pure white)is it possable that the ignitors (or whatever they are called) are built into the ballast?
There's also no mounting brackets how am I going to be able to mount them?
There are 2 connections on each ballast ones for the bulb and the other one is for what?
TIA!!

just like you said, 2 bulbs, 2 ballast, 2 ignitors. you have 4 of 6 things. might want to call him and double check with some more peeps with hid's. if not, call hella and ask them. later

43402, RE: For People Who Know a lot About HIDs Posted by shuwa29, Mar-24-03 08:56 AM
if you have the 9006 hid kit then you can run the apc dual projectors like sonikbewm did. later
|
43405, RE: For People Who Know a lot About HIDs Posted by sonikbewm, Mar-24-03 09:34 AM
Yup, if you have the 9006 bulbs you'll have to use the dual projectors. Get ready to be high beamed like crazy because HID + dual projectors = bright ass light.
|
43413, RE: For People Who Know a lot About HIDs Posted by 9d9Mitsu, Mar-24-03 10:27 AM
All it says on the bulbs are Phillips German D2S/DS2 DOT it dont say 9006
|
43451, RE: For People Who Know a lot About HIDs Posted by MCubed45, Mar-24-03 03:56 PM
just check to see if it plugs into your stock harness. our stock bulbs are 9006. the dual's use our stock wiring. should plug right in. it should say somewhere on the box what size it's for i think... oh and my hanabi's don't have ignitors either. just the bulbs an ballasts.

Boy are you gonna be one unhappy dude. Firstly, if your bulbs look like this as i suspect they are (since you said D2S), they are NOT gonna fit into you stock headlight housings. As someone already mentioned, we use 9006 bulbs while those in your hands are D2S. To make the D2S work, you will have to come up with some custom way to a) secure the HID capsule in place, b) position the HID capsule so that the HID arc is suppose to be where it should be to produce the correct beam pattern off the stock reflector housings.
Or you can return that set and get the correctly rebased HID bulbs that will plug into your 9006 headlights.
Or if you're looking for projectors lights, then buy some OEM projector units off a wreck audi/bmw or Hella 90mm H9 projectors, find someone who is trying to get rid of those crappy APC units and transplant the good quality OEM projectors into the crappy APC housing. If you do get OEM projectors, the D2S will fit perfectly. If you buy Hella 90mm H9 projectors, the D2S will fit with some minor mods.
The best source of reading is here http://faq.auto.light.tripod.com/headlight-menu1.htm
Good luck, PUGSX http://home.gwu.edu/~nloke/eclipsehidretro.html

Well, I wouldn't say you're set. You need OEM HID projectors
to be exact. Of course, there are no OEM HID projectors for
DSMs so you'll have to do a custom job again to transplant
those OEM projectors either into your stock reflectors or APC
housings.

oem hid projectors.....:wary
are you talking about the 9006 hid blub... if you are then Yes
they do make a projector for them... they sell them at nopi
and they are made by apc.... there are people on the board who
have them already......
|
43529, RE: For People Who Know a lot About HIDs Posted by PUGSX, Mar-25-03 06:17 PM
No, I'm talking about D2S projectors, not 9006 projectors.
Afterall, the HID bulb he has is D2S.
There's no point for him to get the normal APC Gen1 projectors
has they are H3 style and I doubt his D2S capsule would even
fit into those. If you say APC Gen2 9006 projectors, his D2S
will still not "bolt in" into those projectors as
the bulb bases are different.
|
43535, RE: For People Who Know a lot About HIDs Posted by icedout, Mar-25-03 07:47 PM
those bulbs he has is for beemers..... we've been telling him
to get the 9006's............. yes he could modify them to
fit but it's a pain in the ass......... i went through it well
over a yr and a half ago before they made the 9006 hid
bulbs....... I was either the first or one of the first people
to have HID's on this board... i know it can be done but too
much customizing... better off just getting the 9006's that
fit in it........

the 2gnt wisemen for you will be shamed:nono anyways,
sonikbewm ordered them from there so he should still have the
number. they don't have them listed on there site so you have
to call and ask for the 2gnt/asog discount to get them for
$350.

dude you can use the D2s bulbs in the 9006 bulb locations. You
see the little slots in the bulb base. You need to grind the
two so they are one slot. then they will fit right in the 9006
location. you just have to turn them so the slot lines up with
one of the protrusions on the housing. Then to get them to
stay you just use the wire like 9006 or do what I did and make
fingers out of metal and attach them to where the screw holes
are for the factory brackets. the figers may need to be bent
to hold the bulb snug. I did this on my APC dual projectors
with the hella HID kit. Hella bright. Just email me if you
have any questions and I can take pics.
