Hi kids.

Anyone here removed the vents at the base of the windshield? I want the LED for the new alarm installed there instead of on the dash like it was originally. Looking for some tips on how to do it to pass to the tech.

I also might be having the shop install new tweeters up there. Should be the same process, I gather.

Are you talking about just a blinking LED, or one of those LED bars that blink back and forth across its length?

Regardless, the biggest problem i'd see if getting the wires that far up the dash. You may be able to get to them if you pop out the panel that holds the cruise control / power side mirror / foglamp buttons, or it may be easier to run them under the edge of the dash and behind the a-pillar. I'd have to go look myself..

Someone else who's under-dash excursions are fresher in their head care to comment?

A Knight Rider-type LED panel you mean? Are you crazy, man?!? You think someone snuck up from behind and whacked me upside the head with with a Rice-bat??

Hehe. No, just a single LED. It shouldn't be that hard, you can reach almost through the vent with your fingertips from under the dash. I just wasn't sure how to take it out. I already have an LED installed next to where the defogger / hazard light switch go. I have another use for that location now.

I've got the whole center console out right now. Was going to install my headunit myself, but realized partway through I was in way over my snorkel. Gonna take it to a professional and have them sort it out.

I took the opportunity to install my Energy Suspension shifter bushings, BTW. Key piece of advice is to make sure you install them the right way! I them fully in, upside down, before I had my D'Oh! moment. Now I hope some cop doesn;t come along and think my car was stolen or something...

Hey Juan, what about the headunit is giving you trouble? I changed them pretty easy on the last car I had. Maybe some of us so cal guys can help you out... aka show up to the next so cal meet yo!

i ran my alarm led to the front left corner of the dash and windshield. you can squeeze the wire through and pop out the led in the corner. it wasn't too hard

The dash is pretty cramped but it can be done. I myself have my alarm leds on the top of the door panels(one on driver side, one on pass.) Some VW's have their alarm lights setup the same way so If you have seen them you can get an idea.

I have a "knight rider" LED on my dash. It's small. DEI. It's really bright and I like it. It's noticeable at night if you walk by the car. IMO, it's not rice unless you rig it to flash around while driving. B/c u will get a ticket anyways.
