4087, Clear turn signals?
Posted by 9D9 MITSU RS, May-13-01 07:35 AM
OK, this is the oldest one in the book, but I never did it. Ho can I get the clear part of my headlight off? Can it be done without taking off the whol headlight housing?

not really. You have to take the whole thing apart. Its a real pain in the ass. Or you can do it like I did.. If you take the headlight out, where the bulb plugs in the light fixture in the turn signal section there is a perfect line you can cut. You can cut it off without damaging anything if you do it right, take out the orange reflector, and get some silicone/epoxy sealer crap and seal it back on. If you do it right, nobody will tell you sawed it off as the silicone will fill the hole and actually melt the plastic a little bit and join it back together and if you smooth it out, its nearly impossible to tell it was cut and it will noy leak. I did it this way because I couldnt get the front seperated from the back. I tried a hairdryer, I tried heat gun, I even tried the oven for a few minutes but nothing would work, the thing just wouldnt come apart so I cut the back and honestly as tacky as it sounds, you can not tell I cut it except on the passenger side on the bottom of the light because I tried to stick it back in before it was completly dry and it has a mark in it now where it bumped up against the metal but nobody will ever see that so ehh.. Thats my 2 cents, if you dont want to do it that way, then you have to fight those damn things and try and get them seperated, but a warning.. Its a bitch. This mod took me almost 4 hours (i'm a profectionist and didnt want anyone to be able to tell I cut it) but it looks tight. :) Anyways, if you got any questions or want pictures or anything like that shoot me an email at Joshis4@home.com. peace!
