4050, New Steering wheel Posted by HadesOmega, May-11-01 05:38 PM
I was just thinking that I wanted a new seat so I could control my car easier because to heel and toe I have to lean sideways and do it (doesn't sound right). My knees kind of touch the steering wheel so if I got a smaller diameter steering wheel I could probably do it better instead of buying a lower racing seat.
Anyway is it legal to change the steering wheel because of the airbag. I have a racing harness well borrowing one and plan to own one in the future, so I really don't need that airbag. The fact that a bag of air explodes in front of your face while you driving scares the hell outta me.
If it is legal what's a good inexpensive wheel? I don't hate the Eclipse wheel but it's too big. Damn I hate the seats in the RS too though...

yeah i just got a grant evolution that kinda looks like cyans but i clored the inserts to match my painted interior pieces. anyways, yeah, the wheel is a smaller diameter and looks and feels a lot better but if you don't have the tilt adjusted all the way up it gets in front of your gauges. but i like it a lot better than the factory wheel. and it is legal to remove the airbags as far as i know. it's not an emissions device and vehicles are not required to have one. just make sure you disconnect the pos or neg from the battery so it doesn't explode against your dome piece!!!!

yeah i have the momo dragster, which is a momo imported piece that is alot cheaper than the regular momo wheels, i got it for $160. i color matched the center on it but i went back and had it chromed, ill get some pics this week. it is 13" while the stocker is 16". you WILL notice a difference, its easier to steer. as far as airbags go, i believe it is legal to remove them but if you get in a wreck and your insurance finds out you took it out, they will drop you...not just on medical bills but that gives them a reason to drop you from all coverage and not pay for the accident because you violated the agreement...i took the risk, having nothing grey inside the car but a giant wheel is not too attractive
