Pearls are like glitter that is added to the clear coat...when it reflects you see the color of the pearl, most stock colors have a hint of pearl in them...that's what makes the color seem to change if looked at from differnt angles.

Stock eclipse silver has silver with a hint of gold pearl. From what I'm told, PPG does NOT make any silver pearl for your custom paint jobs. People use WHITE pearl, which does look like silver since it just reflects white in the light. Blue with white pearl looks pretty drastic. On a darker car like black, you really can't notice the pearl much at all. Stock black preludes have blue pearl in them, but you can hardly tell. For a white car, blue or purple pearl seems to be the most popular choice. If you get green pearl, your car may end up looking a hint like a lime green car (not drastic, but very slightly). This looks okay, but I personally prefer blue or purple pearl which looks amazing at night under the street lights. Yellow with gold or green pearl also looks good. You really have to see it in person to judge it because pictures tend to either exagerate the pearl or hide it.

Honestly, I don't think it would be worht it to paint a pearl over your current black color. Its VERY hard to notice pearl on a black car, so we never do custom paint jobs like that. You would end up paying around 1300 just to shoot a pearl, and for the same price, you can change the entire exterior color of your car (since in order to shoot a pearl, you still have to sand down the entire car and prep everything). Silver with purple pearl looks really nice.
