40197, Help! Question for those who ordered from Importfan Posted by jkaiser, Feb-06-03 05:36 AM
I recieved my order a few days ago and took my side skirts to a shop to have them put on. The guy called me and told me that the side skirts fit really tight. Like they were too thick to fit and be able to close the door without them rubbing badly. He also said that I would have to take my door caps off for them to be able to fit. They are fiberglass high blitz skirts. Would filing them down where they are tight help? Also do you have to take off your door caps to for the blitz skirts to fit or do you think I should just take them somewhere else? Any help or comments would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I had the exact same problem with my sideskirts I ordered off of ebay. I ended up having to cut off the whole top thats just below the door so it would close properly and redoing the fiberglass, I tried filing it down at first but it was no use it was way to high I eventually filed all the fiberglass away in areas. The door caps I ended up taking off but have realized I could have keep them on you just need to file the side skirts down in some areas so the door caps don't scrape. If you do take the door caps off you will have about 6 very noticeable holes on your door that you will need to fill. I have a white car so I put some white electrical tape over the holes for the time being. Over all its just a bigass headache. Only positive thing is, by doing it myself I'm saving alot of money and it forced me to learn how to use fiberglass.

That guy is talkin a load of shit(the bodyshop) Yes it may be a tight fit around the doors, but there is no way in hell you should have to take off the door caps, if he is saying the door caps need to come off, then the door itself needs to come off, because the caps are just an extension of them. a good body shop would shave them, or cut them in half and reattach them after cutting a little in the middle
Bottom line, yes and no

The shop probably will have to do a lot of work to make them fit. Many side skirts don't fit right on our cars because it is such a tight fit. Either sand them down a lot (which still might not work if the angle of the fiberglass is wrong), or else redo the fiberglass. Either way, you will probably get slight rubbing where the door closes, but hopefully they can get it to fit.
