What is the best way to clean the engine?

by hand. ;) all you need are lots of paper towels, a toothbrush, simple green, and some silicon (tire) spray to shine up the hoses.

ive heard of a lot of people using the high power spray with no problems though, just make sure to put plastic bags with rubber bands (or similar) around all the electrical stuff so nothing shorts out.

go to wal-mart. get some of that super-tech engine degreaser, like 78 cents a can, grab a couple and head to your nearest car wash. i never cover my electrcal stuff.....never had any probs. just spray it on, let it set then wash it all off. you dont have to hold down the trigger and presurize it (the wand) just let it come out soft so you dont force water anywhere...that my way of cleaning. when its dry get some metal polish and anyting you want for the hoses and goto town on it with a few rags and some elbow grease!

Yea, I do mine every couple weeks, I go to the car wash with some heavy duty engine degreaser and spray it on the areas, only I use a light spray more like a mist of the high pressure soap first, then go over it with a little more degreaser and then the water spray. Afterwards I drive around a bit to let the water dry up. Go home grab a rage and go over all the pieces with either armor-all or tire spray, making sure I get everything out of all the nooks and crannies. http://www.dsmgarage.com/users/BigRedGoSlow theres a pic of my engine after cleaning.
