39293, door poppers from radioshack? Posted by ghost, Jan-23-03 04:49 PM
I can't find the post about getting the cheapass door poppers from radioshack, or whatever... anyone know about this?
Is there a write up on it? I can't remember.
I'm interested in possibly doing them if they aren't a mechanical disaster to install.
Anyone know anything?
TIA!

NO! They arent' heavy enough for long application use. Yes, it would work for a little while, but less than 6 months your going to wish you bought the $50 a door kit. $100 total, plus costs of shaving the handles, etc.

If anything, you could do what I did with my first truck I ever owned. Go to a junkyard and find the celunoids from door locks out of a mid 80s to 90s oldsmobile or cadillac and use those as your "poppers" and wire them to a toggle switch on your dash. Then you would get some .5" diameter springs, about 2" long and put those in the bottom outside corners of your doors, one on each side, and the springs will also help push the door out. Just be sure to wire a hardwire power/ground under the car somewhere in case you leave your lights on or your battery dies. :thumbsup
