3873, front bumper cap damage - options?
Posted by juan, May-08-01 05:28 AM

So, I hit a dog on the freeway the other day. Killed it pretty instantly, since I was going 85. :(

Anyway, the impact punched out the cross-hair part of the front bumper cap on my 96. It also took out the deflector part that forces the air through the radiator. Kinda looks bad, so I'm looking into the best way to fix it up.

These are my options:

- Get a whole new 96 style bumper cap. How much would one of these cost, ballpark? I'd rather not go to the 97+ style, since that would mean new headlights, and I prefer my style anyways.

- Get new deflectors from the dealer, and get a mesh grille insert. Do all of these inserts install flush, or are some of them inset? Any links with pics of the Grillcraft one, and any others?

- Get an aftermarket body kit replacement. Only problem with this is I have never seen one I actually like. I'm pretty conservative with the cars appearance, and wouldn't get something that screams "boy racer". If anyone has links to low-key styles with pics, send them my way though.

- Anyone ever try a Talon front end on an Eclipse? That might look ok, except I think that my foglights wouldn't fit.

The final thing is that I'd like to do this relatively cheaply.

Any suggestions and comments greatly appreciated.

Try a Kaminari front lip, the install on the the stock bumper and aren't too aggressive.

I think Juan was considering a whole new bumper since his is messed up (not just a new lip). I think a 96 new bumper is at least 200 from the dealer, but you might be able to find one used somewhere? I don't know if the dealer sells the deflectors, but if they do, its probably going to be really expensive. They "might" only sell the entire bumper. I think your best bet if you want to stay simple is find a used black 96 bumper so you don't even have to paint it. Someone out there has got to have one...good luck

$200 from the dealer for a new bumper? I called about an interior door panel (all plastic, power nothing) and the guy says "You're in luck, they're on sale this week for the LOW LOW price of $224" $224?!?!?!? <-- really big letters, I laughed at the guy and hung up. Anyway anyone have a powerless tan interior door panel for the passenger side door? hehe (painting mishap)

the 95-96 bumpers sell for like 70 bux typically on the traders.
i'm switching to a 97 talon bumper(in my garage :) ) since they look more aggressive, yet not overdone, how i think most aftermarket ones are, but these are very hard to find unless you wanna pay a salvage yard like 250 for one.
