37824, help on installing a carbon fiber hood? & hoodpins Posted by xEclipsE RaceRx, Jan-04-03 08:38 AM
I just ordered a VIS carbon fiber hood and I was just wondering if it was hard to install the hood myself with a buddy or two? Is there anything hard about it? I heard the hardest thing is lining the hood up...is that right? How can I make this procedure as easy as possible? Also on hood pins...are they hard to install? You just have to drill where? Any help or comments is appreciated.

installing the hood is easy. Just remove your stock one, be sure to unplug the washer nozzles, and put the other hood on. Hoods are predrilled so all oyu have to do is bolt them up and they are aligned

Hood pins are easy. Install the bottom part first in your engine bay, and put something on those parts that will mark the hood(grease?). Then close the hood just so they touch the bottom. Open the hood, and viola, you now have marks where to drill. What I did also was drill a small hole from the bottom up just to mark it. THen I drilled from the top down, stepping up the drill bit sizes until I had the correct size hole. If you drill from the bottom up with a big drill bit you might crack the gel-coat.
Oh yeah, and most if not all hood pins come with those plates that screw onto your hood. So the hole doesn't have to be pretty :)

Ok you say install bottom part first, well where should I put it? Is this a good spot? Can I mount them there on the orange spots?

Yeah, that spot is fine. Most say to get them as far out as possible but I put mine where the rubber stoppers are (inside of your marks) and then drove 5000 miles of interstate and had no problems. Email if you have any questions bro

install them on the outside lil rubber pieces, they are the circular ones that twist out, they have lil arrows on them too. Thats where I had mine, and it looks better imo then having them really close together.
