Ok..there are 2 shops near my house in northern Virginia and I was just curious..i think the tint limit is 50% or 35%.. how many of you actually have illegal tint? Also, if you get a ticket do you have to actually get the tint changed and go to court? because i'm thinking about doing 30% on all my windows..i don't want them too clear, but not TOO dark..do you think cops would notice 30%?? Cuase one body shop has some like Forumula 1 film and charges like 150 for good lifetime legal tint and this other one does illegal and legal tint and charges like 220 for illegal..what do you guys think i should do..cause when i got my ticket for no front plates i just had to pay a fine..but i don't want to have to pay to get my tint% changed and go to court just for stupid tint..any input or advice is appreciated!

I put on my own tint. Its 15% tint thats appplied twice so I guess its only like 8%?

Arizona's legal limit is 30%, Im way under. Have had this for months, cops have never looked twice.

I figure they cant pull you over for it, can only ticket for it once youre pulled over.

Also, my dad claims you have to scrape the tint off right there on the spot. Im not sure about this though......

I live in North Carolina, I had to get mine done at 35% because they won't even give me an emissions test (which I must have once a year)if my tint is not legal.
I also had a buddy who had illegal tint, the police made him srape it off right on the spot, but didn't give him a ticket.

So I would get the darker tint, if you don't have to get and inspection or anything, you will like the looks much better if you go dark, just try not to make it look to obvious

I have 20% on both my cars. The legal limit in Missouri is 35%.

Never had a problem in either car except once I was driving in my Maxima and got puled over for speeding. The cop gave me a choice between the tint or the speeding ticket....

Obvious choice but it still cost $80.

I have limo tint in the back, everything in front is really dark too but I don't remember what the % was. I don't worry about it. take my chances

i have 22% all around. i like it and (knock on wood) i've been ok thus far. there is no "legal limit" in pa, but the cops won't bohter u as long as they can look in your car. if ur not sure, i'd say go for about 25%...that will look pretty dark, but is still light enough to see in as well.

im in central va, legal limit is 50% on the front windows, and 35% on the back windows, yes, i think that 30% is noticiable. i just did my girls altima 35% all the way around, and its pretty dark but not to noticable. i have mine done 5% all the way around and 50% on the fron window;) dont drive the car enough to worry about tickets:)

35 is almost factory tint shade its pretty light the tint to notice u have tint is easy but u can seee very clearly through it 35% all the way around should be fine 20% allthe way around u cant see in the car at night vison becomes impared for backing up and dark nights, u wont have to remove the tint if u just pay the ticket because it is non moving violation your fine...

I have 20%, but if you think you're gonna have a problem get a doctor's note. Saying that you get migraines from the sunlight. I hear its pretty easy to do.

I got pulled over in the GSX once for having 5% window tint and here it's illegal to have the drivers and passengers windows tinted at all when you have the back tinted. I just played stupid and said that this was how I bought the car and nobody said anything when I had it inspected. The cop told me to take care of it and let me go along with telling me that I also needed to put on a front license plate (I told him it fell off when an old lady backed into my front bumper in a parking lot). Still have no front plate and 5% tint and no problems since :)

see i Live up near Fairfax, VA..and apparently those cops are dicks (pardon my french) and the VA state trooper gave me a ticket for no front plates..and i told the cop that when i bought the car it didn't come with that mounting bracket..and he didn't care and still gave me the ticket (i really took the mounting bracket off) but now my plate is back in the front.. also can you pass inspection/emissions with too dark of tint in VA? now i'm thinking i just want like 35 or 30% tint. Thanks

Here in CA, the tint limit is like 85% or so, meaning any aftermarket tint is illegal (at least thats what the tint shop I talked to told me). I got a ticket for mine which is probably about 20-30%, not too sure it was on the car when I got the car. I did get pulled over for rolling a stop, and the officer tacked on one fo r the tint too. Other than that, i've been pulled over twice: once got a warning for no front plate (no ticket), and once for being accused of racing when just caravaning from a local 2gnt meet with 2 other Eclpises (cops got a more urgent call so ran off leaving us with warnings). All I had to do was pay the $160 ticket (rolling stop and tint) and I was done.

yea troopers are dicks here, i dont think passing inspection will be a prob tho, not sure, its not something that they check for, but i havent been inspected since 2000, i buy on the black market ;)

I live in southeastern VA, and I don't have tint on my car now, but on my truck ('92 low ridin s-10), I have 2% all the way around. I went for the longest time with it, and then one day I was going down the four lane (with the windows down), and a state trooper pulled me and wrote me up for tint and exhaust (40 series flow). I have a friend who has an eclipse, and he put 25 or 30 on his. It looks good, and to my knowledge so far, he hasn't gotten a ticket.

At the shop the guy told me the limit was 18%. So i went with the darkest they had which is 8%. They've been done for about a year and no tickets yet. Also, i heard that what they do here is give you a fix it ticket for like 20 bucks, or fix it and take it to the station and they'll waive the fine. But, for the amount of times i'd get pulled over for tints is worth it. At least here in miami the sun bakes up the car. I've gotten 2 tickets with them (for something else) and the cop didnt say n e thing about them. 8% all the way around. Hehe :thumbsup

I live in North Eastern Pa... Tint on the front windows is illegal in PA....I've got 20% all around...I like the way tint looks....Around here, as long as your not a jackass the cops won't bust you for it... but State Police is a diff. matter ;(

were did you get your porchse turbo emblem?, how much you pay for it? about the bov if the cop really wants to be a prick, he could charge you with "excessive noise"

The limit in UT is 45% I got pulled over and was marked at 12% all the way around. 40$ ticket. I payed the ticket and havn't been pulled over for it since, I figure $40 every 9 months to a year is well worth how sexy it looks :)

I lived in FL,GA and NV. All of those states have a 35% as legall. In GA I had 5% on my 93 Mazda and never got pulled over. I work at the Sheriff Department down here in FL and i know that cops want to know what/who is inside the car for there saftey. If you drive with the windows down, most of the time they don't care. It's only when you don't and you give them a reason to worry that they would say something about your tint.

i believe it was like $20..i don't remember if they had the silver emblem in stock or if they even carry it..but i bought a black one and i painted it silver/chrome and put it on my painted center piece where ECLIPSE use to go..i think it looks pretty good..except for the altezzas..which i might sell really cheap soon because i want to go back to stock taillights i think. But be warned..if a cop is behind you and he sees your TURBO emblem..he might pull you over..i believe turbos are illegal if they don't come stock.. so if you're 420a and you have a turbo emblem..you might get a ticket..but i'm GST so they can't do squat..well except for my bov because it's loud.. :/

oh yeah 1 more thing..for emissions and safetey if you have illegal tint will you still pass in VA? because if i can't pass inspections with illegal tint..there is no point..

tint does nothing for emissions, state inspection could be another story. You will fail in MD with illegal tint, not sure about Va tho. Getting tint removed costs almost as much as having it put on so keep that in mind.

I totally blacked out my back windows, I used black colormatched vinyl, nobody has noticed. It looks good on my car I'll post pics if there is interest.
