Alright, I'm thinking about getting the SPAL power window kit but does anyone know if you NEED to have the SPAL switches for the kit. Or can I just go to a junkyard and pick up some nicer power window switches and use them instead. Will I have to rewire them if I do or would the majority be "plug and play" :D ?

It just seems like the switches are so expensive compared to the kit, and its hard to find one on Ebay for a good price that includes switches.

I just bought a set of door panels that are from a GST with power, the switches, a SPAL kit and lock plungers. I have not installed it yet but from what I'm told all you need is power to the switch, then connect the up side and down side and you're set.

I could be totally wrong as I have not completed my install yet, but it shouldn't be hard at all.

Well as far as I know, the Spal switches and the stock window switches should work in the same manner. You will have to figure out the stock wiring on the switches if thats what you use for switches. Also, i'm not sure if the doors are pre-wired for the power windows or not, so you may have to run all the wiring into both doors. Check out the factory service manual for the stock window wiring to help you out.. If you get the stock swithes at at junk yard, be sure to get the wiring harness that plugs into them, and also, leave a good 6-8 inches of wiring on the harness...You will def need the wiring info for the stock plugs, as the window and power lock wiring is all in the same plug..

k here's the deal. i have the spal window kit along with the spal switches. the window kit itself only has two wires comin out of each motor. essentially all the window motors need is to be hooked up to a 12v source. if it's hooked up one way the window go up, if you hook it up the other way the windows go down. all the swtiches do is control which direction the current flowing to the motors is going. as long as you can figure out how the stock wiring is setup you'll be fine. the spal switch i have are a 6 pin configuration: 1 for ground, 2 for positive, 1 tapped into parking lites (my switches are illuminated an lite up when i turn on the parking lites), and 2 pins for the 2 wires comin from the window motor itself.

i'm not sure what stock switches are like, but if they're not illuminated that should make things even simpler. there's prolly just gonna be one wire for ground, and one for positive and then where the two wires from the window motor connects. the reason my switch has two positive pins is that the switch essentially works as two relays. when the switch is pushed in one direction it connects one of the positive leads to the 1st wire to the motor and the 2nd wire to the motor gets connected to the ground. when you push the switch the other way just the opposite happens, the other positive lead gets connected to the 2nd wires to the motor and the 1st wire to the motor gets connected to the ground (thus reversing the current and thereby changing the direction of movement of the window).

i know this's pretty confusing but that's basically how window switches work. if you can figure out the stock wiring it should only be a matter of connecting a 12v source, a ground, and the wires from the motors. i guess your switch configuration complicates things as well. are you going with a 3 switch or 2 switch setup? with 3 switch, there's 2 switches on the drivers side (one for each window) and one on the passenger side. if you've only got 2 switches, it's jsut the 2 on the driver's side. if you use 3 switches you need to wire the passenger side motor to the switch on the drivers side AND the passenger side. this entails running A LOT of wire. (running wires into the doors is a major PITA!)

how did you get the power trunk relese kit? buy it or get parts off other cars?

it's aftermarket. www.slickcar.com same place i got my windows. it's like $20 or something. kinda a PITA to install if you don't get the mounting point right or where you're attaching it to the latch. if i already knew where to attach it, it prolly woulda took me like 1/2 hour to install. haha i still gotta run the wire up front and take it back to the alarm guys to hook up to the remote though... i'm gettin lazy :P
