35059, anyone know about these M3 mirrors?
Posted by farmdogg55, Nov-23-02 07:15 AM
i really want to get these and will probably order them next week, but i was wondering if anyone has them, or knows how well they fit, or if they are hard to install/wire? i would rather you not comment if you think they are gay or rice or whatever...but any useful info is much appreciated. TIA

Seems easy. Not sure if youve messed with mirrors before, but its very easy. You just need a small ractchet, dont remember the exact size, and theres 3 screws on the inside. Unclip the power if you have powered mirrors, the mirror comes right off. Those M3 mirrors most likely mount right up perfectly. For wiringif theyre powered, Im sure they might clip right in to the stock harness. Obviously youll need to do the blinker part yourself. Thats a blinker right? Shouldnt be hard tho. Just run a the powered wire through your firewall to your blinker and tap in. Thats the simplest way to do it. Those mirrors are pretty tight. I wanted them, but I also wanted a roadster look with mirrors that come up from the door, so I got those instead. But I really like those M3 mirrors.

yeah its a blinker, im gonna try and replace the blue LED with a red one since i cant find any with red. but as far as wiring, i was hoping that i could just splice into the turn signal wire.

Since those mirors attach from the door its a bitch to run the wire through the rubber wire protector that runs from the door to the car. You can buy the rubber protector thingys from some auto parts store. I would drill my own holes and run it along with the other one instead of through the other one. It's hard to explain but you know what I'm tryin to say?

edit: oh yeah just tap the power wire to the turn signal power wire. Or some people hook the up to the parking lights. Or you could probably use a relay to have them run with the parking lights then blink with the turn signal.

i know exactly what your saying. where do those wires that are in the rubber thing go when they reach the car? can you get to them from inside the car? or are they behind the fender or something? i may have to drill some small holes, thats a good idea.

edit: i want them to blink when i turn and stay on when my lights are on. how do i do this? i figured since that is the same way the turn signals work, i could just use those wires. who knows, maybe there are some good instructions with them. maybe i will ask this question again if there isnt.

Oh I didnt even read the auction. Those have two different sets of lights so it will have two diferent power wires. they should be color coded, but if not just put power to each one to find out what color it is first. Then tap whatever one you want to the turn signal wire then tap the other one to the parking lights. The stock rubber protector runs to a kinda hard to reach spot. I was planning on getting those so I was checkin into what it was going to take, and it just seemed easier to drill the new holes. I just ended up gettin the non signal ones. Now I regret it tho. And if possible I wouldnt even get the power one's. The motors are real cheap and will probably break shortly after you hook em up. Just get the non power ones. They wont move after you adjust them.

thanks man, yeah that auction is for manual ones, i dont need power mirrors.

The thing about the turn signal is its a 3 wire thing. 1 wire for power, one for ground, and one for some sort of different power that causes it to blink. So Im not sure how youd hook up a 2 wire type thing to get it to blink then stay on.... Good idea though.

Edit: I realize now what youre saying, youd have to run the wire into the door then with those other wires to the car. Its hard to see where it goes after that. You could wire whatever you need from the turn signal up through the firewall and to your feet. Then when the mirror wires go down the door and out you could just connect them. So you dont have to put the mirror wire into the car, may be hard.

Edit: Are red blinkers legal on the front? Should be, common sense speaking, but I think they outlaw everything just to make it hard for us. I know a guy with a celica here who had a red turn signal in front and got cited for it.

To use the two wire hookup and get it to stay on and blink you just need to hook it up to a relay then run it to the two power sources. But the ones he's looking at have three wires anyway.

i got the same mirrors, pretty good quality, naw they give you extra wire to go with wire but needless to say, you will need more. they fit directly up, install time should be 15 mins tops, good luck
btw, the third wire is for the blue leds to stay on, i just didnt bother hooking that up, blue leds not for me
