hey its me again, the car noob... :D

im going to be doing the LED's for my HVAC tonight hopefully.... i was told to disconnect the battery before i do that....but its really farkin cold here and i was hoping to have the car running with some heat...

can i change the LED's without disconnecting the batter or will i get nice and shocked?

it's a good idea to disconnect the battery when you are doing ANY work on your car's eletrical system, due to the fact that some wires always have voltage on them. you could very easily touch one of them to ground, and blow a fuse. it's pretty easy to do, i've done it a lot :P

when i disconnect the battery, is there a certain way besides just unscrewing the bolts, and taking off the connectors?

in my chiltons guide it says to use a special battery clamp removal tool...

nah.. should be fine to just use a socket wrench for the nut.. loosen it and kinda twist it around to pull of the terminal and kinda let it sit in midair or wrap a towel or something around it to keep it away from anything.

imo.. i rarely disconnect my battery when doing electrical stuff :-)

but thats just me.. i take the risk of something happening, so if you dont want to take the risk disconnect it

um, disconnect, go inside, do the hard work there, then go back out, and as far as doing leds, everything to with led's minus the guages has a plug in the back that would protect you

well, whats teh worse that can happen if i dont disconnect the battery? a fuse blowing?

im more concerned with freezing my ass off with no heat while doing this rofl

there isnt a strong possibility that anything will happen, BUT... its always a good idea to be safe. i know when im working onmy car i always dosconnect the neagtive, that way i can cut/unplug wires with reckless abandon.;)

on a side note, always ALWAYS disconnect just the negative side (well, you could disconnect the positve, but it makes no difference.)

dude, just leave your parking lights off. i'm pretty sure that's the only time that light comes on... no power flowing to that LED with them off. if you don't wanna blow fuse just make sure you don't accidentally let the positive and negative leads going to the LED touch. that's a sure way to blow a fuse. (done it before). but in all honesty, you should be fine with the parking lights off. if the lights not on, there's no juice flowing through it. i've done lotsa electrical work with the battery still connected. blew some fuses but that was me bein careless. it's only 12v's too so it's not gonna shock you that bad. your body's internal resistance prevents the current flowing through you from bein very high... anyone who knows electricity knows it's not the voltage that'll kill ya - it's the current. but i mean with a 12v source to get a current of at least 1amp you'd need an internal resistance of 12ohms or lower... i'm pretty sure people have a lot more than that. not tyrna scare ya or anything :P but yea i did all my lighting and power window installs w/o disconnecting. drained the battery once but that was from a couple nights/days in a row w/o running the engine much.
