3353, Chrome vs. Polished Posted by Raz, Apr-23-01 08:28 AM
I am trying to decide whether I should get chrome or polished 17's. Same exact wheel, no weight difference etc. Chrome and polished basically look the same right so whats the difference besides price...what are the pros and cons to each. Thanks

LAST EDITED ON 23-Apr-01 AT 05:03 PM (PST)I think that depends on the color of your car... Some colors look better with silver, others with chrome

I personally like silver but some rims look nice chromed. I think it just depends on what YOU want. Its your car and your choice. Go with your gut instinct.

There's no difference in weight with polished or chrome??? that doesn't sound right, cause chrome adds a LOT of weight. I have silver 18" rims now that weight less then my 16" chrome one's I had before!!! But what color is your car?? darker colors look better with chrome, but Polished is basicly the same thing, it's just that polished wheels will lose their shine after a while, chrome won't. You can't go wrong with silver though. But if it's chrome you want, then get it.

Chrome is a Nickel coating, as a clear coat finshover a polishes wheel is a coating. Chroime really doesn't add any weight that I know of. And you can't compait 16" to 18", or even two 18" it depends on the manufacturing process and how the wheel is forged etc. The only real compairison would be two of the same wheels by the same company of the same style one chrome one silver. I don't think there is any appreciable difference though.

nope, chrome adds next to zero weight, my wheels have 3 inches more metal in height and 1.5 inches more metal in width than my stock 16's as well as heavier tires...well my wheels (chrome) with tires inflated - 47 lbs, stock with tires partially inflated weighed in at 42 lbs. with as much extra metal size as i have on these wheels and still only adding 5 lbs, i doubt the chrome added any significant amount of that, maybe 1 lb.

i love my chrome but its a pain in my ass cause every time they get a little drop of water on them i have to clean them because they look dull.
