33006, I know most dont condone spray painting rims... Posted by mrlocalpimp, Oct-21-02 01:44 PM
But heres this guy's rims. From 2gnt. The stock eclipse ones.

I was thinking, what if you spray paintedr them black but left only the chrome (or silver on the other style ones) circles on the outside? So youd have black rims but the outside circle would stay chrome/silver. What do you all think?

LOL...i used to have an 89 dodge colt HB, and i spray painted the stock rims chrome on those (more of a joke than a true mod). funny thing was..it looked REALLY good. and it held up well too, i drove like that for about 6 months with no chipping or peeling until eventually i threw a rod and junked the car. i would think that even if it looked like crap the next time you had your tires changed you could have someone sandblast them or use some kind of chemical to take it off.

First of all notice he has a gs-t. Now if you had done your homework you would have found that some of the GS-Ts came with chrome stock wheels. So unless I am badly mistaken, those are not painted, they are stock. :P

xEclipsE RaceRx of course you have black rims with chrome lips, thats where my idea comes from. You see im sure it would look good, but im thjinkig it might be lame is some eclipse guy or ne1 who knew saw they were stock rims just spray painted. I ilke the style ebcause it makes the rim look bigger, if you notice.

you could always get the powder coated black instead of painting them or even get them done in black chrome with a chrome lip. that would look good to...that's if you are willing to pay the cash but it shoulnd't cost that much.

Yeah get them powdercoated. Spraypainting them would look G-H-E-T-T-O.

I must say that when people see my rims, EVEN up close, they ask how ,much I payed to powdercoat them or where did I find those enkie's in black, too bad it was only $20 in spray paint so I think I saved my self just a LITTLE bit of money over $100 per rim for powdercoating. Think about that when you say ghetto.

I sanded them by hand with an 400 grit sand paper I believe, then I sprayed a black sandable primer, sanded again, and did that 2 more times so 3 coats of primer, then I sprayed 3 coats of gloss black 500 degree engine paint and then 3 coats of 500 degree clear gloss engine paint.

I'm sure yours look great. I'm only speaking about the ones I've seen. You obviously went through the trouble to do them correctly. Mad props to you.
