32688, Lights aren't level...please help! Posted by a_miller_76, Oct-14-02 11:24 PM
Okay, either something's wrong with my car or I'm a complete dumbass! I noticed that one of my high beams was hitting the ground about 5 yards in front of my car so last night I decided to even them out (whole power screw driving behind the light method). I sat about 30 yards off from a fence and adjusted them until the two high beams were level with each other and about 3-4 feet off the ground (on the fence).
Well, when I kicked the high beams off i noticed my low beam on the driver's side is over the top of the fence!!!!!! So I re adjust it so that it's level...now my high beam is back on the ground.
I can only find two adjustments, up and down, and right to left. I can't find an individual one for low or high beams. Anyone know what the hell my problem is?

I think either your bulbs have been manufactured incorrectly (not consistant placement of the element) or they are not seated correctly in the housing, maybe some dirt or something is holding the bulb from seating flush in the housing, maybe the reflector is damaged/off center
I dont use my brights so I just level out the low beams and im done

Yeah, but they don't look that far out of whack....at 30 yards you're looking at a 10ft difference in focal point. That doesn't sound right at all.

It only takes a little to make a huge diff over 90 ft(30 yrds) try turning the bulb in the holder to see if that makes a diff. get it? If that sucker seems to move around in a circle as your moving the bulb you know its messed up, or try even changing bulbs from left to right then if nothings changed you can rule out the bulb as the problem.

i'm pretty sure that the drivers side high beam is supposed to be pointed down slightly. this is so that it is not shining directly at cars coming the opposite way.

Ahhh, well I feel better. I thought my car was a rebuilt front end collision or something and my front was all fucked up.
