32011, Blacked-Out Headlight Question Posted by FlyinEsi, Oct-04-02 03:42 AM
Alright, I think I'm all ready to do the headlight defogging and cleaning but I don't know how to do what I want to do. I see guys on the board that have what I call blacked-out headlights. I'm pretty sure I always remember seeing it on xEclipse RaceRx, but there are a ton of you guys that have it. Do you just paint the chrome pieces inside black, or what?
I'm not looking for a page on how to take the headlight out, but which pieces to paint.
Alright here is what i want mine to look like...

I would like to have the blue tint too, but how do I do that???
TIA

I bought mine black on the inside. Perty sure its jus the interior housing around the lights that gets painted. The only other thing is actual blackouts but i assume that you don't mean those :)

No, I'm talking about the inside (I think)...I've met a guy in town with red paintings on the inside, like FarmDogg, and I'm starting to think I'm not looking for painting on the inside...from looking at icedout's headlights I think he actually has a tinted housing...is this right?

Look at the bottom of this thread...icedout...is his housing tinted, because even his amber turn signal looks darkened...so would I have to buy new headlights, and to get the blue tint of OptimusPeterson get blue tinted bulbs???

nah bro... those are the STOCK headlights on the 97-99 models. ours (95-96) have the chrome housing, but you could still do what you are planning to do, like i did:

you've gotta throw your headlights in the oven (can't specify temperature/time... someone else will do that; i don't remember), pull them apart by hand, and you will see once you're in there what piece gets painted. there's a few pieces, but just the one long piece gets painted. the amber piece also comes out, if you wanna clear your headlights as well.

Alright, let me ask you this...I have a '98 Talon, but my headlights aren't the darkened ones...I have the choromies...does this mean I have 95-96 headlights, or did Talon just do something different?

I know what you're talkin bout now, i think. If you wanna tint the outside part, just take apart the housing and get some colored tint for the inside of the clear outer plastic covering.

I Like my carbon fiber taillight covers...but the problem is i heard they have the tendency of flying off on the interstate...its only velco holding them on...you can go steal you a set off sum other eclipse...or buy a pair from http://www.spiderautomotive.com/ like I did for $90 EDIT: But I just noticed you were talkin about headlights...my headlights are the stock 97-99 and came black

Nah I painted mine. I have 95 Talon headlights. Painted the inside chrome part black, with a ovalish shape over the amber part to look like the 97-99 headlighjts. Looks perfect, looking up close you still cant see the difference. But, of course, they are bigger than 97-99 headlights

"bake" them on 250 for 10 minutes. Then just pull them apart and paint what you want in there. Put them back together and heat them again so the silicone sticks together.
