well, this has happened since i got my car about 6 months ago.

when i open my doors the dome lights dont turn on, they never have. the lights under my dash have not worked when i opened my doors up until recently. i had some neon rods wired and mounted under my front seats, which my friend did - this did not seem to affect anything. i also had subs and speakers installed in my trunk and rear seating quarters by tweeter, which also didnt seem to affect anything. Up until this point, neither my dome nor my dash lights lit up when i opened my car doors (extremely annoying to have to press it at night when i get out to go places).

so i unhooked my cd player, and then my under-dash lights started to work. then, i hooked it back up .. and everything still works but my wireless entry system, which previously made my exterior headlights and rear taillights light up quickly when activiated, stopped working.

the dome lights and dash lights DO work. You can manually press the domes and they light up fine. Hitting the "door" switch on the dome light fixture also seems to do nothing.

so now, im stuck with dome lights that dont light up when doors are open, under-dash lights that do, and my wireless entry system not doing anything but making that annoying beeping noise when i use it.

If anyone has any lead as to my possible problems, plz let me know hehe. sorry if this is long :)

The problem is probably how your cd player is hooked up. one of my older cd players that i installed myself, would switch off every time i turned on my headlights. Thats the only thing that i could think of that would help :)

man, it seems like theres a lot of electrical issues with our cars lately.:)

you mentioned that when you took the headunit out everything returned to normal, right? i would suggest running the ground wire from the headunit directly to a part of the frame. there are several screws behind that area to accomplish this. just make sure they touch metal.

after doing that, check all your fuses in the drivers side kickpanel ares. one or more may be blown.

thats all i can think of for now. its usually one small little problem that messes everything up, so inspect everything!.;)

Hmm, CD player is not grounded currently (just found this). Going to check to see if it will solve the problem.

I had this same problem when i swapped out my head unit. Of course, whomever did the head swap before me had it all screwed up in the first place. But after replacing it, my dash lights, and gauge lights didn't work. I fixed this by grounding those lights to the frame (must've wired a lead from the lights to the back of the stereo). The problem i'm having now is that my reverse lights don't work. If anyone knows where to get a hold of a top-knotch wiring diagram for a 96 GS, i'd really appreciate it.

i think the reverse lights thing is completely separate. mine don't work either (or they do sometimes rather...) but with mine i know it's b/c my sensor's messed up. try check that. i dunno if it's different if you're auto or anything but on mine there's a sensor on the tranny that triggers the lights. if you look on the drivers side, kinda underneath where the ECU an stuff is. it's a brass bolt looking thing with a wire harness attached. just take it out. when you push in the ball bearing your lighs should go on (i'm pretty sure that's how it works). if it doesn't try bypassing it. unplug the harness an just use a wire to bridge the two leads (thus completing the circuit which is basically what the sensor does). if your lights go on when ya do that then it's the sensor.

if not could be somethin else. check the fuses an bulbs an what not. i'm pretty sure it's not related to your other problems b/c i don't think any of the wiring for the reverse lights is done on the interior...

i still gotta check w/ satan on how much that sensor's gonna run me... other people said either $55 or $20
