I remember reading somewhere that if the steering wheel was taken off cars equipped with air bags, its considered ilegal, since your removing a safty feature.

I was thinking tho, cars with airbags now sometimes have the cutoff switch. I really don't like airbags. The people I have seen hit them come out fucked up a lot worse than if the bag wouldn't have hit them.

our state law states that if your car comes with airbags then you can not remove them. or you can get fined and i'm not talking cheap.

Yeah it's HIGHLY illegal to remove your airbags, but a lot of people do it anyways. BTW, the cutoff switch is only for the passenger airbag, and only if you havea really small child sitting there that might get hurt by it.

yeah and our cars dont even come with a switch so that wouldnt be a very good excuse imo

It may be illegal to remove them, but I don't think you're required to replace them if they go off. I don't know.

If a cop should hassle you, just tell him you were in an accident, you fixed the car yourself and didn't want to pay an arm and a leg for a new airbag.

If you do take it off, you could sell it and make a few bucks. Probably enough to pay for that new steering wheel.

would not recomend trying that. The vin is on several spots of the car and if they looked at the vin plate it would tell immediately that it is from a 94, etc. THe 10th character on your vin tells model year and it'd be easy for them to tell its fake. That and they could then impound your car as a stolen/chop shop vehicle due to false vin. The only real way to get in trouble for switchin out the steering wheel is if you are caught speeding/similar illegal driving act. THen they could get you for the wheel in addition to the other stuff. IF you ever got into an accident with that wheel on, your insurance will not, repeat will not cover you. IT is ocnsidered removing a safety device and voids your ins. Removing a working airbag is highly illegal and is a huge fine, $1000+. That wheel is dope tho. Just get at your own risk.

Badass wheel imo. Mind if i get one down the road? I will be replacing the wheel eventually and ditchin the airbags to go the LoTalon (or similar) route.

my friend has a 1st gen laser. He is debadging it, getting misc eclipse and misc talon parts and gonna get badges that say DSM. I gave him the idea to do a conversion having parts from all 3 cars. He has my 14's, and I think he might use my seats and steering wheel. Even tho the airbag won't do him any good.

I talked to a kid at a Taco Bell this morning, He was telling me he had an eclipse once. An old man was passing a rig and managed to hit him head on a 65mph. He escaped with a 6 month hospital stay and some broken bones. I say leave them in, They may save your life.

I'd rather rely on my 4 point harnesses than the airbag that comes out at like 200 mph.

Sheit, you got a harness? Then I don't think the saftey end of it is that critical. Just don't get pulled over. I'd go for it.

yeah, I was talking about ur car. Get the black housing projectors, some black chrome tails or something, and the chin spoiler, and a cf hood. I know that's a long list, but that would all coordinate and look hella nice. It takes time.
