30521, question about paint Posted by 9D9 MITSU RS, Sep-05-02 02:29 PM
I wanna do my flames in a ghost flame, but a little darker so they don't disappear all the way at times. Would they have to repaint the whole thing? Or just tape it off, and then sand within a stencil type deal and paint the flames and shit in there? About how much do ghost flames down the sides cost avg? I wanna stand out at shows a little more. tia

To put ghost flames on, all they'd have to do is scuff the clearcoat on the paint that you've got now, mask off the flames with blue tape & then tape off everything outside of the flames. They'd then reclear the panels that were painted, wetsand & buff everything out.
I'm custom painting a '95 Cobra showcar right now where the guy wants ghost flames on it and a mural of the "Death Dealer" from Molly Hatchet centered on the hood, along with 2 other Death Dealer murals on the fronts of his front leather seats. For all that work I'm billing him about $5000. If I were to do just ghost flames on the front quarter panels & doors, It would be about $1500. If I were you, I bring the flames up on the hood & have 'em wrap around the fenders & doors. That way when the sun hits the flames on the hood, they'll really stand out & get peoples attention.
Hope this helps. Good luck.

some guy here just did that. I don't wanna do that. I like my flames as they are now, but want them painted.
