30457, God Damnit, give me some help painting Posted by Super20G, Sep-05-02 07:23 AM
There is construction going on in our subdivision and the connecting highway, well, I told the guys today that I wasnt gonna clear it the way they had the roads all fxcked up, they said I would be ok of course, and I came down off of one huge hump, front in dove down, then caught, flexed hard, and popped up... Not a whole lot of damage, didnt crack it thank god, but the whole bottom lip is scraped up, along with minor spider webbing of the paint, which I figure will spread over time... What should I do? I think I am gonna raise hell with the state and try to get them to pay to have it fixed, but I dont know how they will feel about my car being lower than stock and having a different front fascia... Any help is much appreciated... also, I need to know what to tell the shop about painting this bumper, cause I know Myke had probs with his first paint job, and want to get it done right the first time... Hopefully I can get a crazy high quote, get a check cut, and have my buddy paint it and maby get a carbon fiber hood out of the deal. TIA

Call the DOT and complain and tell them what happened. They will probably just cut you a check. Thats similar to what I did a couple of years ago.

You mean on Myke? I think it flaked off real bad cause of something or another.... I just dont want it done wrong and have to send it back to be fixed again... I'll try contacting the DOT tomorrow, hopefully they will help me out. Wonder if I will need estimates ahead of time...

You should raise hell with the city it's in. They made my friend drive his lowered eclipse with a blitz kit in a bean field to go to community days in belton and it cracked. He even told them he couldnt make it. But they made him go. Long story short. The city of Belton gave him $2000 for one lightly cracked repairble fiberglass front bumper. :thumbsup :thumbsup

By the way...my bumper is getting painted AGAIN a 4th time...there is a small crack in the paint below the drv headlight. :sighs:

If your state/town has altered suspension laws it may not work, other than that they will probobly just cut you a check as it is cheaper for them

Hey, I dont care if they try that too low shit, cause my grandpa took me home today from funeral home(I hate those places, friend died racing down the twisties.... :-() anyway, his buick park avenue scraped the whole lower lip real bad, he is old and doesnt really care though, he worked construction all his life, used to that stuff i guess.. Well, I'm not, that sucks to have a nice car and not be able to drive it cause they've been doing construction for 6 damn months, and when you gotta go to school, it tears the paint up, not to mention scraping the front mount pretty bad and the oil pan. I'm gonna get some crazy estimates made up monday and get as much as i can front them ;-) I fella without a job has gotta do what he can.
Mike, whats the deal with your paint? $500 dollars for a front bumper to be painted is a lot of money for this shit to be happening, what are they doing wrong? My bumper before this has kept great for years...

If you got coilovers, just raise your car up for awhile, claiming that it was always at that height. That is if there are laws about ride height in your town. I'd still do it just to be safe.

If they give me too much grief and want a police report done, i'll throw the oem springs on there for that ;-) But reguardless, their carelessness caused that, god damn, not everyone drives SUV's and big trucks... hehe
