Fiberglass and/or carbon fiber shiite. My friend is getting a house with a 2 car garage and is looking at heavily getting into composites. He has messed around with it here and there but is now looking to further his "education of it". Needless to say he wants to tutor me, along with another friend who went to school for it :D, and they wanna go all bucknutty n shiite on my ride. So what is something you guys would like to see done?? This is all in the works, but give us some ideas. If all goes well i can talk them both into doing custom work, and your car wouldn't have to be there since we'd do all the fitting in mine. Just some ideas, a feeler if you will ;)

I was thinking of redoing my trunk interior with carbon fiber and get rid of the factory plastic.

a simple c/f front emblem does sound good.

Here's what I was wanting to do....Take your center piece out of the back and make a fiberglase replacement for it...in the center section of that fiberglass cut out a rectangle almost as long as the whole piece but not quite and about 2-3 inches high, then lay one VERY TIGHT layer of glass over the top of that. Then get something to stencil the eclipse embklem onto it and cut it out (I've never worked with glass so if your guys can do this better...it's just an idea)...now in the rectangle behind the cut-out put a 1/4" thick piece of lexan (same dimmensions as the rectangle you cut out) with a layer of mirror tint on the back.

Then when you go to put it back together put some kind of red lighting in...like super thin neons or red bulbs...but do it so you can't see the bulbs, just the glow coming through the logo. It will be silver during the day and glow at night...and you can color match the fiberglass to your car.

Should look kinda cool.

You could do that with your plastic piece.....jus be easier to not have it popping out. You could cut the mitsu logo and but the plexi behind it with the tint and mount the neon(s) behind there......I was planning on doing a whole new center console and dash on my car. Something more simple and less curvy i think.....we'll see. This is all a big "If", first he needs a house with a garage, then I need to learn as much as possible from them and probably do my work myself. I will, however, try to do some stuff on the side IF i am good enough to do so ;).
I talked to the other kid and he just doesn't even want to do it, my friend getting the house is psyched about making carbon fiber pieces for his bike. So we'll see and i'll keep y'all posted.

I second the carbon fiber emblems. I would also dig some lettering. You know on the centerpiece of the taillights where it says "ECLIPSE"? Mine are trashed, I need some new ones anyway.

Fenders....i don't really see a prob in doing them. Doors and bumpers n shiite are tough. Lettering would be easy and interior pieces are what we planned on starting with.

Another question though.....what would everyone be willing to pay for custom stuff like this? We have to get this gauged before we can even start to do custom stuff for other people to see if it will be worth it to us.

I would like any interior parts at all. painting sucks.

well....color may be a different story. I know you can get different color gel coats for glass, but it would be hard to match the off-normal colors of the eclipse. Basic colors can be done, but i would have to check on what we can do.

Have you looked into how much it is going to cost to get the carbonfiber to make stuff with this stuff is expensive one yard is $48.95 it does get less expensive the more you buy but it never is cheap. the next time i buy it it will be 50 yards and it will cost me $1746.50 but i will have enough to do alot more than just the intior.
look into the prices and you will see why no one makes dash bords and large panles for cars. no one wants to pay the $150 to $200 it would cost just to make the center panle peice in the trunk. it is a good idea just keep it small untill you are sure yuo want to spend the money. for more product onfo look at www.fibreglast.com

Yes, we have a clus as to how much it will cost for the carbon fiber. But we also see that many people want it and it is starting to come up strong in the aftermarket. We are more looking at doing alot of glass, carbon fiber is gonna take a lil while to master. As far as pricing, my friend works in a marine supply warehouse and is possibly gonna set me up with a businessz account. And since he knows the Official Chick in charge of ordering it is possible that he can get the initial buy in waved. I have 4 catalogue's sitting in front of me full of prices, plus i live on line. I think there is a demand out there for stuff like center consoles. We'll see. It's more sumthin we're doin for ourselves, but a service to others on the side.

Wait...if it would cost $150-$200 for a middle piece in the trunk area (which would be a 1 layer item) then how in the hell can you get functional hoods which are two layer items (Meaning top and bottom, not how many layers of CF it takes to make them) for $500 or so?

Hell that website up a few responses sells functional hatches for $575.

I'm EXTREMELY interested as to what you could do as in custom work with the dash, post some pics, I'd pay upwards of 300 or so for a nice console cf piece

what about the entire dash in CF? maybe do that to order and if they want change it a lil bit for a tv screen or something...or would that be too fragile?

The way they keep hood cost down is by buying carvon fiber in bulk the more you buy the cheaper it is after you sell 10 or 15 hoods you have gotten back your cost for materal and making the molds then you start making the profit.

and bucknutty have you found carbon or kevlr any cheeper to the general public i dont have my tax id# yet.

Just do search on google for carbon kevlar or anything you want/need. We have a few places, but i don't have them bookmarked on my computer. Try any local boat shops, i am willing to bet that they can get anything like that since they are in the fiberglass business.

As far as pricing.....it all really depends on the work involved. Something like a whole dash would guaranteed sell for more then $300. Shipping would also be a biatch. But basic interior panel pieces *should* be a cinch, and decently cheap. And i have an idea for custom panels, i just wanna do it myself and see what y'all think before i offer it up.

Like i have said a few times before, we are just gauging interest and we have to get ALOT better at it before you guys even see any of it, nevermind buy it.

Interior:

I would be interested in a CF armrest. Steering wheel center thing that covers the airbag. The cloth things that are on the arm rests on the doors. Rear deck lid cover. A plate custom cut to block off the center vents so you could cut them for gauges.Flat CF pieces to replace the sun visors that mounted to the stock swivel thing. CF air bag cover.

Engine Bay:

Fuse box cover. valve cover shell. Header heat shield. a flat CF piece to replace that foam heat shield stuff on the bottom side of the hood.
cf intake piping. Oil cap and misc. things.

Exterior:

Gas tank lid. Reverse light block off plates/reverse lights covered in CF. Emblems. Wiper cowl. a CF piece cut to fit over the 97-99 front bumper opening thing at the top/the grooved thing that is black stock.
CF sidemarkers for the 97-99 front. Real CF wiper arms. CF stock spoilers.
Whoa i guess all that would keep yall busy for awhile.
I think there is alot of people that would be interested in some of these pieces that i took the time to list. Selling them cheaper than other CF parts like hoods would make them sell better. I hope i helped to give you some ideas. I hope to buy some from you soon.

lol....i am still waiting on my friend to get a place so we can get into all this....we do absolutely plan on getting into fabrication....I jus can't promise when. The other kid i was sposed to get together with....collaborate if you will....turned out to be a douche bag and somehow got his old boss to lie to me about his skills. I mos def have ALOT of things in mind, a full cf interior amongst a few things....but we'll see how it all goes.
