29871, Vice grip? Posted by NySpeed, Aug-26-02 11:08 AM
Hey guys I tried to replace my fog lights and the screws got stripped. What should I do? I checked the archives and some of you guys use vice grips? What is that? and how much do they cost? Where can I get them? Please help!

I would recommend an extractor set. You srill a small pilot hole through the middle of the screw, and then put the extractor in your drill, and run it like you are trying to loosen the screw. The extractor will dig into the screw, and work it out. That is exactly what I had to do to change the fog lights on my car. By the way, Vice grips might work, too. They are kinda like pliers, but they lock in place. You can find them at a hardware store for 5-10 dollars. -=B-=

My fog light screw also striped a while back, and I was forced to replce the bulb without removing the fog light itself.
Note to others: Ise a large headed phillips on the fog light screw, if it has a small head, it will strip the screw.

Mine got stripped, I went around back and manually released them afeter lubin it up w/ pb blaster, I got a vice grip and kept turnin, Im sure you could just drill it out...I chose not too, after i was done, I just put new screws it, either way will work...
^^^ likehe said above it's like pliars, w/ teeth, but they can lock so once you get on the screw you lock it, turn so that it doesn't slide and strip the threads of the screw, you can get them from hardware stores, prolly even walmart..
