29065, changing the carpet color Posted by farmdogg55, Aug-17-02 03:24 AM
ok, its time for me to change the carpet to black. i was thinking either rit dye or fabric paint. i read some of the old threads about the paint and one said that is came off the carpet a little. i couldnt find anything on the dye, cuz you cant search the archives. but i remember people like evan2 doing it. i just wanna know if it will rub off on my shoes or anything like that. i was leaning more towards the dye, but i wanna know what would work better. anyone that has done either please help. if i had the cash i would just get one of those preformed carpets, but i dont. TIA

same shit u used to paint ur dash dood, Duplicolor. But use a wire brush as you spray, so you get it all in there good. It will fade the first time you do it...ur feet will rub it off some...but after the second time you spray it again and use the wire brush it will stay for good. Mine did.

i say save urself time and possible fuck ups by just spending 200 and getting new carpet. Either by ACC or ACS. I got ACS. It is premolded, all you gotta do cut down the middle and make some holes for the seat screws.
IMO with paint, it never turns out right. I painted my visros with black dupliclor and it looks alright but you can tell its not a pure black and it feels funny whevener u touch it because of all the layer of paint i had to put on it. PLus I think after a while the paint is gonna start to come off with excessive use.

i say go ahead and paint it. i've had mine painted for more than a year now and i've only had to do small touch ups on the high traffic areas. and don't waste your money on 4 dolla cans of fabric paint, go to wal mart and pick up like 6 cans of generic flat black paint. i tried the fabric paint and it all just flaked off after like 2 days. so i took it out and brushed it good and redid it with wall mart paint and it has been good for more than a year
and about the carpet dye, it works untill it rains. my boy whith a honda did his black and it rained one day we got in and my white shoes were turning black. so i don't recomend carpet dye.
good luck and have fun, try it if you need a new carpet then you have nothing to loose, right?.... if for some reason it goes wrong then just pick up an acc carpet.

^^^thats a good point, i'll just try the spray and see how it turns out. i'll do the back first so if it screws up it wont be as bad.
