Anyone know any reasons why the handbrake light stays on even after I diengage the handbrake? The light later turns off after driving for awhile.

This is on a 1995 Eagle Talon ESi

Check your brake fluid level. I think the BRAKE light may also be a low fluid level indicator.

make sure your handle is fully down. also, when you apply the e-brake, you should normally feel some resistance that gets stronger as you pull up more on it. well when you release it, gently lift it to see if you feel some 'free play' before the resistance. if so, then the e-brake is not fully disengaging. if that happens, and you begin to drive, it will loosen up and fully release. could be a possibility.

There's a switch attached to the ebrake you might wanna check that. The brake fluid has nothing to do with the ebrake also, but the light could mean your low on fluid but still has nothing to do with ebrake.

its the break fluid it hapend to me i couldt find out why ,and then i checked my fluid.lol

No, OR it's your pads....

If you need your pads changed...your brake light will come on...mine did until I changed em out.

what hades said, check that button, there is a little piece that pushes the putton when the break is put down. that button can get moved or bent out of the way thus making the Brake light stay on.

i don't know about the brake fluid or pad, that was what was wrong with mine.

i'm still tryn' to figure out why my reverse lights don't go on whe i put her in reverse??

In cold conditions though, that damn light is always on.

Well one day I raced some rice civic and I wore my breaks pretty bad..next day I started my car..when i released the handbrake the BRAKE light was still on...after about 15-20 min of driving it went off..then it was off for the whole day..next morning it came back on for 15-20 minutes..so I wasn't sure what was wrong..maybe a senor..maybe the break pads..but I had already scheduled a tune-up and stuff for my car at the dealership and they called my cell to tell me that my breaks were like 130 seconds which is barely passing emissions here in VA so I told him to change it..and my brakes and stuff have been excellent.
