Ok guys i recently meshed out the front of my 96 GS-T, and got a couple requests for a writeup on how i made it look like i did, so here ya go! Though i have only done this to a 96 front bumper so far, but i will soon do it to a 97, and post the differences. It totally TOTALLY transformed the look of my front end, combined with clearing my headlights.

MATERIALS NEEDED:
-wire cutters
-a sheet of stainless gutter cover from a local wholesale hardware store, such as the Home Depot, Home Base, etc. It only costs about $3.50 for a 3X10 sheet. (pics below)
-zip ties
-Drill with a small bit
-leather gloves (if you dont want battlescars from mesh cutting)


-Detatch your bumper. a writeup for this can be found here

-Using a hacksaw or something similar, saw out that ugly fiberglass grate on the front of your bumper (the one that makes your bumper look like it has teeth, you know what i mean). I have factory foglights, so i didnt saw out all 8 places, i just sawed out the center 4 and then the two where it attatched to the outside braces for my foglights. It's up to you.

-measure and cut a piece of mesh from the back of the bumper hole, leaving about an inch extra in all directions.

-From inside the bumper, place the mesh over the hole and fold down the corners overlapping the edges. Try to fold them neatly, not bending a large curve, but instead making a sharp corner all around to fit the bumper exactly.

-secure the mesh with zip ties using the existing holes, and maybe a couple of holes that you can drill with your drill. Be careful not to zip tie to somewhere away from the edge, it will be visible from the front if you do and wont look good. zip tie to the mesh as close to the edge as possible.

-Do your other bumper holes. These dont have any pre-existing holes to place the zip-ties in, so you will have to drill (the fiberglass drills very very cleanly).

-reatatch your bumper, and examine the new hotness. NOTE: if you have factory foglights, you will have to cut a couple of holes in the mesh where they screw into the frontend. this is np.

...but how long have you had the mesh on? I ask because mine didn't hold up well to bugs or other debris when going 80+ on the highway....it dented and warped the mesh majorly. Just wondering if the way you did it holds up better.

i have had mine on for a few months and it is holding up well. the bugs are bad though, seems like every kind of bug gets stuck in there. but i just use the car wash to get them out. i painted mine white and i used this stuff called "automotive goop" to attach mine...insted of drilling holes. but nice write up

Since you used goop...is it permanent? WHat happens if you get it damaged and need to remove/replace it? I'd use something like that if I knew I could get it off when I needed to...

of course mesh is going to catch things as you drive. However, you know wehere all those things would go if your mesh didnt catch it? That's right, bam, right into your radiator... i found a cigarrette, a piece of a cardboard box, and some other shit in my radiator when i put my mesh in... it is a bummer that it can ding up though. dont take it offroading :)

hehe, everytime im down by the strip, the next day or so, im lookin at my clipse, and i got them titty magazine pages/newspapers w/tna chillen in my grill...

use zip ties, and get creative as where to put em ;-)
