27861, The Demise and Awakening Posted by ghost, Jul-31-02 05:13 AM
Ok, so I just finished helping the paint/body guy finish that yellow eclipse I showed everyone that was bad ass!!!!
http://groups.msn.com/1995eclipsegs/yellowfinished.msnw
And the kid picked it up the same night (Monday night around 9pm).....
Well I see it all around town yesterday ALL day...and we had a big storm. The kid was trying to race it around like it was turbo'd or something, which it wasn't. It was stock, just with body kit paint etc...
Anyway, I had a bad feeling about him doing all that shit...
So my dad comes home from dealership with a surprise for me in the back of his truck...

That's all that is left of his fiberglass blitz body kit because the kid was hot rodding the car in a storm in winding curvy hilled roads in the country.
Not smart.
RIP young yellow one! I almost cried! She was beautiful! :'(
Now this has scared the shit out of me because I am about to get mine kitted and painted within days... I was going to get a fiberglass kit...but after seeing that, I don't think fiberglass kit could hold up in this country area OR in downtown Dallas shitty roads where I go to school. BTW...my car is stock ride height and wheels...not lowered.
The 2 fiberglass kits I wanted were the Rudora or the AeroGear Xtreme series kits.... but now I'm so scared of getting them on and then ripping them off that I think I have to go to urethane blitz ONLY. The blitz is ok, but I really want the AeroGear (Rudora is not a beginner's kit I'm told...haven't been told anything about AeroGear yet...) Anyway.... can anyone convince me of going with fiberglass instead... or am I smarter to go with urethane because of the road conditions.
I dunno people...talk me through this one pleaaaase! I need help!
:'( :'( :'( :'(
TIA!

urethane is nice, but I'm a big fan of glass. If you get a crack in it you can fix it, this is not the same as urethane. Just be careful. Because that idiot kid was tearing around bustin his shit up dosen't mean u will too. But it is ur car, just giving my 2 cents.

Thanks man!
Well if I don't lower my car and it rides on stock height, should I be ok with fiberglass in rough Dallas downtown roads? Basically the kit I'm asking about is the AeroGear xtreme series kit...does it stick out too much in the front or is it about the same as most of the other kits, anyone know?
My delima is that I'm in college, I'd like a sportier looking eclipse that can still be a daily driver. I already know that in October I have to drive all the way to Tulsa, Oklahoma for a job and I'm not sure of the road conditions at the job location. So I need the car fitted so that I can still daily driver or drive to job locations without killing my kit/car whatever.
Those of you who have kitted cars or really lowered cars, do you daily drive them? Are you able to get around everywhere alright? Did you have to change certain ways you drive, etc... ? Please help me if you can!
Thanks all!

Yo do have to change how you drive, and you should get coilovers, i know they are more then what you want, but they are safer, i haven't put on my combat sides beacuse of this, right know i can barely free some DIPS and some speed bumps, with the sideskirts i have to go across town just to go home from school.

Is your car lowered? Are you talking about actual coilover system..like true coilovers or just springs and shocks?

Do NOT leave your car at stock height with a body kit. It will look funny. My car is really high right now, but still about 1" lower than stock. Also, most front kits stick out more than stock, so you really have to angle when you drive, or else you may crack it.

take it from me, I have 2" max clearance off the road, and I have crapy roads and drains all over the roads and I have had no probs, you just have to think whenyou drive, look ahead, make sure there is eniugh clearance to get in lots, and look for alternatives.
