I saw the gs in turbo magazine with the targa top. It looks sweet. Eff a sunroof. I wanna get a targa top. What all would I need to do besides have it cut, and have seals placed in the roof? Would a roll cage be sufficient for support? Any links, knowledge, etc is appreciated. I just need to know how much support is required for driveability, and where it needs to go.

Talk to some experinced body shops, to see what they recommend. Everyone here will tell you to put all kinda steel beams here and there, but there may be a body shop that will wanna work with you on that subject, by trying a few tricks, and seeing how they work. Since few have done it, your car could be the Guinea pig and you could work out a sweet deal with them.

I would get a rollcage put in the car before chopping off the roof. It would add the extra rigidness that you would need whenever you drive with the top off. If you've got the money Id definitely say go for it. I would love to see a NC DSM with a targa top

A spyder. Your body would flex to peices.

I found a body man that does exceptional work. He does crazy custom shit for VW's. I am gonna check with him on it. The eclipse in the september issue of turbo has a 420a and turbo kit, and targa top. The guy would probably be able to hook me up with a quality job. Support, etc.

Yea, I would be afraid that there would be too much body flex. That is one reason i dont get those ridges taken out of my roof like some people have in the past. Those were put there for a reason, to strengthen the body and cause less flex, but You would definetly need to eliminate flex whether it is by a Roll cage or metal beams

I wanna get a roll cage b/c looks, but definetely if I need it. I guess I'll see what the shop says since nobody really knows any details. I thought about going to a toyota dealer since the supras have targa tops. Supras are pretty similar to our body style. They may know how to do it the right way.

9D9 I am actualy currently working on doing this to my car I have been planing it for a few months and when I saw that car in the mag I knew I had to do it. I will hopefully be starting to actualy cut and put in a custome roll cage in about a month but unfortinatly I have no shop to work out of right now. I will try to post pics and info once I actualy start to do it.

Twiste are you talking about the rain rail things on the roof if so mine have been shaved for months without a problem.

Well, keep me posted on that. I need to know what all is needed besides cutting the top and making custom weatherstrips, and having clamps that hold it down when the top is back on. The main thing I need to know is stability stuff.
