26717, suggestions on custom passenger airbag enclosure Posted by cyan, Jul-16-02 12:36 PM
alright i ordered my 7" widescreen monitor today (the one like yours hondahater)...and i am installing it in place of the passenger airbag that i took out of my car like 3 years ago. so now i need some suggestions on how to go about doing it. i think it would be really hard to have the tv sunken into the airbag cubby, it would probably be much easier to make a cover for the hole an dinstall the tv inside that cover. but what should i make the cover out of? im getting an estimate for a fiberglas enclosure bu ti have the feeling it will be too expensive. so anyone else got any ideas, or even better, pictures of this done to an eclipse or any other car?

I dont know how the inside looks, but cant you just jinge it and atach it to the top of the cover? The screens now are thin so it shouldnt be to hard, Ive so far finsihed my dash pod for my 4" lcd and gauge pod, and im gana work on glassin the hatch trim for my BIG lcd 2morow

sup cyan,
I used stong tin so i bend it a little then put carpet around it. Also used hinges to close it when not in use. I'll take some pics for u if u like it's not 7" but you'll get idea.
Where'd u get the tv i think i want a another one or two.
E-mail to post a pic because I might forget to come back to this post.

A fiberglass enclosure shouldn't be that expensive. When I was doing my A/V setup I a local shop was willing to make the enclosure, mount it, and run the wires for $85. Prices in your area might vary, mine was coming from Ultimate Audio out of Lexington, SC.
The same shop did a 97 Eclipse about 2 weeks ago that was badass. They took 2 small actuators and custom made rails for the TV to attach to and mounted it horizontally in the airbag. When the TV is turned on, it slides out of the airbag and tilts up just like the in-dash units. Completely badass and 100% stealth.
