I have the tan interior on my car and I guess after driving with the windows open all the time for so long, both left and right sides of the headliner bordering the rear window panel became black from the dirt/wind etc..
I figured I'd clean it with some of that upholstery/fabric cleaner but dindt work out too good, matter of fact it kinda ate tru the marterial a bit to where I now have some small patches where the felt is gone. Just wondering if anyone's changed their headliner it how much/where could I get a replacement?

Go to Home Depot. Find a can of 3M adhesive spray...the BIG TALL can with the BLACK CAP. $15.

Go to wal-mart. Find and pick out any BED SHEETS you want...don't use felt..it will shed on you later on.

Now, remove your headliner...most parts come out along the top with a phillips screw driver and all plastic covers pop off with a flathead screwdriver...the tricky one is the "oh shit" handle...Just use a flathead and pop open or slide back the cover over both sides and unscrew the phillips screws underneath. Same for the coat hanger hook in the back.

Now with the headliner out...Cut you a pattern from your fabric 1-2 inches larger than the headliner. Spray the ENTIRE can of that nasty green snot looking adheasive all over the headliner (yours, not the fabric). Now, wait 2-5 min to let the glue set in some and make it sticky. Now lay your material over it flat. Start from the center of all curves and "iron" your way outwards towards the edges...like smoothing over a cloth or ironining a shirt. If you have a sunroof...cut a hole 1-2 inches smaller than the hole and overlap all edges. Like a christmas present...cut little angles and chops outta the edges to make everything lay over smoothly. Do NOT PRESS DOWN HARD WITH YOUR HANDS as the glue will soak through and you will have ugleee wet spots...this is why you let the glue set in first a little bit.

When finished...let it dry flat for 6 hours or so. Heck wait a day if you can and then when ready reinstall it back inside your roof cavity.

That's the basics to it...I should make a write up or have pics...I will be redoing mine soon...I found a sweeeet jagged black and white and red accents rip pattern bed sheet at kmart the other day... so I will really be matching now. I will take detailed pics when I do this soon. (within a few weeks)

Hey Mike I bought the regular headliner material from the fabric store. Now my question is this...Do I have to remove the original headliner material since this material I bought has the foam backing on it? If so do I spray the 3M on the shell itself or do I need some other type of bonding agent?

In your writeup above...were you refering to leaveing the original headliner on and just 3M'in the bedsheets onto the original headliner itself? Plus how easy is it to redo the sliding sunroof cover and sunvisors? I just don't want to mess this up. tia

i redid mine with the 3M black cap stuff and it melted in the hot sun i think the one day it was over 90deg because it is sagging now in one part. its not too bad though, i may redo it with some better heat resistant stuff at some point. i dont know about with the sunroof, but otherwise pretty easy to take out and redo. i did mine in black velour with red and white vinyl letters....looks sweet!

Really? U had probs with the black cap 3M spray? Shizzz, in Texas our cars get up to 140+ degrees inside the interior...mine hasnt sagged yet.

The only problem I keep having is that my sunroof leaks during real hard rain storms and my seats got water stains (*COUGH* u asses, lol) and also little water stains on both sides up top sometimes....carpet cleaner fixes it, but I'm too lazy.

I used felt and I don't have a problem yet. Its been on for about 2 months

someone at school told me that I should strip off the old headliner material since what I bought was the replacement material. It actually says headliner material and has the 1/4" foam backing on it. I don't know if I can just 3M it to the existing headliner material. I have no idea but it looks like it might be to thick for the end result. I should have just gotten bed sheets.

Oh yah and I meant to ask you the adhesive spray I bought is: 3M Spra-Ment Craft & Display Adhesive is this the same stuff you all used? tia

This has a black cap on it...it just isn't very tall. What does the Big tall can say on it besides 3M?

But its reeeeeally tall and costs $15 at Home Depot. I think it says SUPER Heavy Duty or something like that...maybe Dino knows? he did his recently...

Im not in any hurry I will take a look at home depot this weekend. Lemme ask you all this and give me your honest opinions.

Ok first off exterior and interior wise everything on my car is either black, silver or gunmetal. So I was thinking of putting that black, silver and gunmetal colored camoflauge material on for the headliner. What da yall think???

My dash, doors, rear panels are all black and all of the accent panels are silver just to give you an idea here is my interior pic.

i like the idea but honestly wouldnt do camoflauge. i would look for some other sheets or fabric with some kind of funky black/silver/white design. im sure if you look around you could find something really cool, but i would stay away from camo. just my opinion though!

im trying to do mine in vinly since my door is wrapped in vinly and my floor and i made my seats leather but its being a bitch has ne one done it in vinly

mine is done in vinyl...used the same glue as myke was talkin about...works pretty good

when i did mine, i bought the actual headliner fabric with the 1/4 inch foam backing. ripped off the old headliner fabric. sprayed the headliner mold, and put on the new fabric. Looks stock.

I bought the same headliner material but I was told not to rip the old off just to put it over the existing. So I put it over it and its a tight fit...too thick really but it worked out ok. Next time I am gonna rip off the old before I put the new on. I can see if you just bought a thin material then yes put it over the old, But if you buy the actual headliner material like I bought...rip off the old b4 you do it. Also the 3M in the big tall can with the black cap didn't work at all for me. So I used the 3M spra-ment and it worked great. Doesn't matter now its done and over with.
