Posted by proDMD, Jun-30-02 02:59 PM
I picked up my CF hood today :) how hard is to take off the stock hood? what hood pins should I use and where should they be mounted? Will I be safe if I keep it under 50mph until I get the hoodpins? PICS will be great help...TIA

I don't have hood pins and I've had the hood on about 6 months now, with alot of high speed driving included in my regimine. Don't take it from me though, I'm an idiot.

I just don't like the way they look man, I don't know though. When your going 100 on the interstate and the center of the hood is flexing BAD, it kinda makes you wanna buy hoodpins.

Ask Evan... ;)
Naw, they are to keep the hood from flying up when driving. They are so light that the wind will get underneath it and rip the top layer right off the frame. Stock hoods are heavy for that very reason.

The old pic is back because I am going back to my stock hood. Read the washer nozzle post if you want to know why lol. and in all honesty I bought some el cheapo hood pins from autozone for 6 bucks. And they did the job just fine......

well dont mess my story up, you dont need pins id say. as long as you get a hood with a good strong latch. my hood was fine the first year i had it.. until i forgot to latch it at a show.. so it was just resting on the latch.. and i hit 45 and it flew up.. then about 8 months later i was working on it, and thought i closed it. but i guess i didnt. flew up again going like 45.. so that pretty much split the layers because the sides were just cut and not rolled

shitty fiber images hood if you ask me.. so about 6 months later im driving home from vday dinner with my chick. .going like 110 past the air port and this lil black thing just goes right over the car. we are like umm what the hell

and i had to sit up for a sec and was like oh damn just a shell left..
but thats cuz the design of the hood.. the hood never really flexed that much.. but it was gone
got a free hood outta it though so its cool..

i had pins they are in myroom.. this hood is 16lbs a lil heavier then the last

has them ghey washer holes tooo grrrr.. hhaah

oh well pins would of helped as a saftey issue so i wouldnt forget but i had that hood over 2 years.. and was fine..

oh and just take them 4 bolts off of the stock hood, have someone help that hood is heavy and big.. my stock bolts took a allen key think it was 5/16th.. sean said he has a 12mm bolt.. so it depends on what year u have

take out them 4 bolts 2 on each side..and pull the hood off.. then line it back up with the new hood and bolt it down. line the hood up so it fits and closes.. simple

takes 10 misn

Some one has a writeup on jow to install pins on here I know, but everything is easy to install
