25535, Cleared my headlights took pics and willing to do write-up
Posted by Erik, Jun-30-02 02:19 PM
Hey I just finished clearing the amber out and took some pics while I was doing it. If somebody feels that a write-up is needed I won't mind, otherwise I'll just delete them off the camera. Oh yeah what do you guys use for a plastic polish that works decent enough to remove some highway scratches and chips?

heres how to do it, turn your oven on to 250, set the headlights in there, check after 4-6 minutes, its they cant come apart fairly easy, let them cook some more, they should come right apart

everything he said, and a little to add.
1. make sure you take the bulbs out! god only knows what would happen.
2. use gloves and not bare hands! your parents would kill us if they found out we were influencing you.
that should be it!

Do you have to take off the front bumper to get to the head lights? Make shure you put how you get the headlights out.

Ok I'll do it today since I have the day off. I already had my bumper off to work on fitting my IC and painting the 5000 rock chips in my WW front. I'll look at my sister's GS and see if I can get them out the same way. BTW this would be a write up for 97+ but I'm sure that it would similar for you 95/96 guys.

Yeah, about the bulbs. They get a hell of alot hotter when they're on. I don't think they would do anything. But, all common sense would say take them out, since it's a 20 second job!!
Good lookin out guys!!:thumbsup

How do you seal them back without getting silicone shit everywhere? That stuff came out thick on my altezza center when I tried to do it.

You do NOT have to take the bumper off to remove the headlites. You have to remove the headlites to take the bumper off, however.

this trick isnt something new... many people have done them before... so no one should be taking credit. also to seal them up, on my tail lights i just used clear silicon.. it was for window sealing and it worked fine. you can just pick up silicon from home depot or a auto store.

<<You have to remove the headlites to take the bumper off, however.>>

That's incorrect, you can remove the bumper without removing the headlights.

eh ok. you're pretty good then if you can get those four bolts on the top inside of the bumper magically with the headlites still in place.

MYke, how do you get the headlights off without taking off the bumper, I took off my bumper and it seems that you can't get to the bottom two screws on the headlights unless the bumper is off.

Does anyone read my stuff? *sighs*

Read my bumper install/removal vFAQ at my site. Its EASY. Called a lonnng socket extension and u stuck it in between the headlites and the top of the bumper to get to those last two bolts.

Mike is right, i use the long extension socket to get my headlights out. Just wrap a towel around a flat head screwdriver(so it dont scratch) and pry the bumper down from the headlight just enough to fit the extension thru. Wallah! lol, if you took of ur bumper to get ur headlights out you took and 20 min job and turned it into a 2 hour job.

I'm doing my headlights sometime during the weekend since I have it off. I'll take pics if I can get this digicam working. if Merlin helps me, I'll ask him to take pics. I'll do a write-up as well.
