Ok, I am definitely getting 18's for my car, however I don't know which ones yet.

I love the look of the Enkei RP07's(tuning type I think)... but I also like the Paradyme's.

I've been discussing/negotiating prices/selection with Discount Tire so far(want warranty and stuff...

They have me looking at:

Enkei RP07
Enkei RS6
Konig Rated R
Konig Flatline

and the Paradyme whatever the hell it's called...WHICH they can get me cheaper than this rep's "special" price.

Anyway, I'd like to know what other DSM'ers have on their ride's that are similar to the tuning wheels(5 spoke..umm race look?) and what you guys paid for yours.

Ok people...I know jack crap about wheels and lowering, so bare with me, please...

If I were to get the 18's, what else would I have to get if I want to lower my car without screwin' anything up?

Like do you guys know the best bargains for the parts I will have to get in addition to the wheel/tire package?

All you really need in order to lower your car is springs or coilovers. New struts are a good idea also. My struts are blown :( Anyways, how low your want your car is up to you. Eibach and H&R seem to be the springs of choice around here.

Wheels are wheels. Some are lighter than others. If you care about wheel weight check out http://www.wheelweights.net/

Springs:
Eibach Sportslines 1.8" drop....settles to 2"(maybe more)
Eibach Prokits 1.3" drop.....settles to 1.5-1.8" drop
H&R Sports 1.5" drop
H&R Race 2" drop

Struts:
Tockio Blues are great struts & affordable, nonadjustable $250

Tokico Illuminas are suppose to be the shit, but they are very expensive usually $400+

KYB AGX Struts are ajustable and fairly well priced but they are a little to long for us....a couple of on the board have them though. $350(give or take)

KYB GR2 are basically stock struts. $200

As far as good deals...well just look around. Surf the web and you'll find fairly good deals. www.alamomotorsports.com is where I got my srpings for a good price....Suspension Tech Springs(1.3"drop).

Well, this stuff is really scaring me. I've had people telling me that even if I got my wheels cheap for $1200(not cheap for me!), that I'd still end up paying over $2000 just to make them look right on my car by lowering it! I didn't know about that stuff...eh...

Anyway... when you priced out the strut stuff to me, is that the price for each strut? So, I'd need four of them at like $300 a pop? OR, are they the ones that come in pairs for front and rear? Or is it a full kit?


And... are these two(springs and struts) a do-it-yourself installation or do I need friends, or is it better just to take it to a shop? I have a friend who'd help me who has his own garage.

$1200 for wheels and tires is kinda the high end but that does sound about right. I spent 1300 on 18" Konig Monsoons and 225/45 Yokohama Paradas....so you are in the ball park for 18's. Check out www.ultimatefinish.com I forgot the guys name who owns it but they are really cool and will work with your bugget...plus first time buyers get free shipping which usually runs well over $100 for 18's w/tires mounted and balanced.

The price quotes are for all four struts. Springs, struts, alignment, camber correction all taken into consideration it can run pretty high but there are ways of getting parts cheap. If you really want your car lowered just get the springs(like I did) and lower it. Then save for struts(which I didn't) and buy them when you can. Even with my struts blown the ride isn't that bad. I have more body roll than anything...the ride quality is tolberable.

Suspension work is fairly easy, just time consuming. I did the install by myself with no knowledge of suspension. It took me about 4 hours with this write up by Corbin http://www.2gnt.com/www/corbin/struts.html If you don't feel comfortable print this write up out and you and your friend should be able to rip the suspension apart and get it all back togther in a couple of hours.

Ok, I've got one...

My dad is saying that his guy said if I get 18's I don't need to lower it if I just get a larger tire size or something? (like 225 instead of 205..something like that) Anyway, I was under the assumption that your ride wouldn't look right with 18's unless it's lowered, and if you weren't going to lower it you might as well not have the 18's. Is this accurate?

Get 225/40/18 tires....

Springs most people prefer Eibach pro-kit or maybe some H&R's that are a little bit lower. 18's don't look right unless you are lowered. Tokico blues are alright for about $250 and Koni Yellows are damn good for about $600. I have maxspeed coilovers on stock blown struts until next summer when I go H&R springs with either Blues or Yellow struts. If I get blues than I am getting larger sway bars also so its your call.....

Paradymes...quoted for 169 per wheel period.... and this was at discount tire. I don't have to pay for shipping or anything, they do. That was the final price. $169/wheel
