there are pics. I have seen them around. I wanted this done and checked around. PLaces here stopped cutting targas b/c you have to build more support for the body to prevent chassis flexing/warping. I heard that cars that get aftermarket targas lose driveability b/c of chassis flex, squeaking, and leaking. It's an all show thing. It can be done right, but you will add some substantial weight to add enough support for driving topless. Perhaps get some structural supports from a spyder??? Nobody here would do it for me. I wanted a targa and a chrome or polished roll bar. Main thing is just finding a shop with a good reputation that can do it and do it right.

yea 9duh9 is right.. and bro if you really want a shop that can do the targa i know the place and its in GA. that does some great work.. my boy brian has a all show accord and he just had ttops and a ton of other shit done on top of what he already had....

It is impractical. You can only do this mod to a spyder, since it has the crossbeams and supports and added weight to avoid cabin shift. You think your cabin creaks now? Wait until your entire frame twists.

Not for the body itself. A roll cage is so you dont die in a wreck during SCCA races, etc...track use or auto Xing.

You would spend over $2k in just body mods for support structures and beams...This does not even include the body work for doing the Targa ITSELF as well, my friend. Someone posted drawings and cost figures/workedout all the details a year ago , last summer on the boards...Try searching for it. I did, but did not have much luck.

I would only do this to a Spyder. Ahem...Chowmane. :)

I really think it's badass. I also think that a roll cage, if built correctly and bolted into certain places, would increase rigidness. And if roll cages are only good for protecting the driver in crashes, then why are so many race cars nothing but a huge roll cage with a fiberglass body??

Your predicate in your last sentence just answered your last question. :)

When i popped off my headliner (which is still off) I noticed that there isn't all too much support there. I think that it could be done without nearly as much beam support as everyone is suggesting.
However, you are gonna die if do this mod and flip the car. The windshield will collpase.

I am considering doing with with my car and still keeping the roof scoop. :) Stay tuned.

I saw a del Sol at Carlisle that had a non-functional roof scoop on the targa.

If anyone ever does the targa maybe it would be a good idea to weld the A-pillars from the Spyder.

Mike...... the roll cage does increase the ridgedness of a car... thats why when people get a roll cage, they lose the strut tower bars.. cause they are no longer needed. yes a roll cage will save ur ass but it will mostdeffinetly help keep the car from flexing, wether or not its enough to not need a cross member on the bottom is another story... but u would deffinetly need a full cage before u even thought about it. a cage that just goes in the rear wouldn't be enough. that would prolly just help to save ur life.

I have been wanting to do this for awhile and since I will hopefully be getting a second car next week I may have to try it :) so any ideas on how to stop the twisting I am looking at doing a back half roll cage but what else would I need as I would like to drive the more then just on an off a truck for shows.

Well I talked with a few buddys of mine that are also into dsm's and the general idea was get the front A pillars from a spider and also any bracing they have underneth and the cage should be enough. I will hopefully find out tonight about my other car and it will probably take me anothe 2 months to get the money for the cage and other supports. I hope to drive it atleast once with the targra before it gets cold here then over winter hopefully I will have the money to try the lambo doors hehe.
