23210, Painted door skins (long load) Posted by Avenger, May-28-02 03:54 PM
Just painted my gs-t door skins black (I have crappy tan manual window RS door skins right now ... converting to power windows from a gs-t currently ... stuck on the wiring :( ). Here's some pics of the door skins. Turned out really nice. The speaker grills are done in silver as well as the buttons for the power stuff.

looks good man! How much did you pay for the door skins?? I bought an aftermarket power window kit and want to eventually put the GS, -T, -X door skins on my ride

I got them from Sean (vegasdsmr). We each had stuff the other wanted so it was more of a trade with some cash. I would've gone aftermarket but I had some concerns on removing the manual window crank (sticks out) and the buttons so I opted on just swapping from a gs-t. Helps if someone has a spare set of gs-t doors. :) I'm currently on the wiring. I've figured out all the mechanical parts to the swap but I haven't taken the time to look at the wiring. I even got around how the window bolts to the window crank/actuator/x-looking-thingy because the windows are actually different for power windows and manual windows!

Looks good...I hate my grey doors. Black just seems alot classier to me. I'm gonna have to take care of that sometime :P

How easy was it to do and what type of paint did you use? I'm really interested in doing this really soon, and that color sceme is exactly what I want. If you can, could you post somewhat of instructions for those of us interested. How did you paint or dye the cloth part of the doors?

if you search this forum youll find TONS of insctructions. its actually pretty easy, you just have to have pateince to do it right. take everything apart and paint it outside, let it dry over night and put back together. thats it. and gst doors dont have any cloth. atleast mine dont anyway. its all vinyl or pleather whatever that shit is.

Mine had a cloth in its middle section. I used Plastikote fabric/velour/vinyl paint. I cleaned VERY well. Then let that dry so there were no chemicals left on it. Then sprayed a few coats. let it sit a day. sprayed another the next day. Lots of people have done it many different ways. This is just the way mine worked out.

I got doors and skins off another 99. Black leather. I need to install the skins and wire up power windows and all. Haven't had time.
