23190, trustworthy tint shop in socal? Posted by EclipzeGamer, May-28-02 01:00 PM
Anyone know of a tint shop in the southern L.A. county/ Orange county area thats honest and wouldn't take advantage of a guy? I got a ticket for my tinting and want to find out if it really is too dark before I have it stripped and redone. tia

In California you cannot have any tint at all on the driver and passenger side. Your's in the picture looks obvious and they can ticket you for it. I got a quote of anywhere from 25 to 45 dollars to redo just the front driver and passenger windows. I haven't done it though because I figure I can live without it.

Thanks Marcus. I thought it could be tinted but had to let at least 70% light or so through. Anyway, it was a factory tint from out of state.

No prob. I think there is a very small percentage allowed in CA, but anything noticeable like your tint is clearly illegal in CA. We have really strict laws. Another way out is if you can get a doctor to say that your skin is sensitive to the light and that's why you need the tint. I would just take off the tint using a razor and soapy water to get the glue residue off. Just take it to a CHP or police station (depending on who ticketed you) to get it signed off.

the CA law says NO TINT on the front windows... i am sure some CHP and cops will let you off if they see that it is a lighter tint than your back window tint...but technically they can still give you a ticket. imo, it is not worth the trouble if you can not tint it the same shade..so i left mine untinted.
if you are using the "the doctor told me to" excuse, you better have a letter from the doctor ready to show the cop when he pulls you over. chances are he will still give you a ticket and you get to prove it when you get an inspection.
i heard there are no more "fix it" tickets in CA anymore.. you pay the fine right away.

My ticket had two boxes on it, one said fixible and one said non fixible, and the officer checked non fixible one. The letter I got in the mail didn't mention either, so I'm just going to strip the tint and see if they will drop it. I also had a rolling through a stop violation on the same ticket, so I'm going to try the ticket assassin method to get off on that too.

Oh if they checked nonfixable, just leave the tint on, pay the fine, and hope you don't get another ticket. Nonfixable won't be written off no matter what I'm pretty sure.
