So I managed to buy a fiberglass blitz rear from someone.

Now my question is what is the proper procedure for installing this.

I know I should install it first and let it "crack" and settle before painting.

But do I prime this first before installing?

uh I don't know what you mean by "crack" and settle, but I've never heard of that. Here's the steps I go thru:
1. Prep and Prime the bumper
2. Test fit and drill holes (yours should already have them)
3. IF the bumper fits correctly and you're happy with the fit, go ahead and paint and clear it.
4. Let it dry for the proper amount of time
5. Put your newly painted bumper on for good and tighten it down

*NOTE* Be careful when using a electric drill or srewdriver to tighten the screws, it's quite easy to slip off the bolt or screw and mess up your pretty paint!

How hard is it to test fit and drill? I'm weary of doing that..never worked with fiberglass before...

plus it's never been installed so there are no holes drilled!


Well I read from another board that you should put on the bumper first to let it 'bend' into shape (thus let it crack and settle from the stress the mounting bolts put).

Not hard to do this, all you gotta do is remove your factory bumper and put the new one on. Jack stands work good to hold the kit in place while you mark the spots to drill the holes. Just drill the holes like any normal one would be done.

Simple, follow my steps above

I've never heard of letting a kit "settle". The fiberglass is good and set by the time you get it, once fiberglass sets it SETS. And once it sets it won't allow very much "play" and will crack pretty easily under bending.

By prepping I mean sand the kit down with a fine grti paper, make sure there are no rough spots or nicks in the gel coat. Once the kit is nice and smooth, spray it with a good layer of automotive grade primer. Once the kit has been primed and allowed to dry good, sand it good one last time to remove any imperfections made by the primer. Once you've done this then go ahead and spray your color on it and clear it.
