i took my headlights apart and took the amber out, i have projectors but the stock ones with the amber out look 10 times better they're awesome

Hi i am sorry to bug ya but i saw that you said that you have projector heads and the factory ones. Would you be willing to seel either pair? I am in need of a drivers side headlight assembly and would love to buy the factory or aftermarket ones. I just dont want to spend the $250 for the projectors.

Me too... how did you do it?

materials:
Butter knife ( thick, strong one )
phillips head screwdriver
oven

ok it only took me like 1 and half hours the first taking an hour the second 30min, ok take your light, pop off all the metal tabs off with butter knife, pre heat oven to 200 deg. ( seems hot but it WILL not melt your lights) let sit in oven for 10 min, pry open assembly, it will be easy b/c the oven melted the silicone, 2 screws hold amber peice in place, remove, them and take peice out put screwed back in to hold the silver peice on, go ahead and clean them out real good while u have them apart, put back together as tight as possible, put in oven for 10-20 more min, pull it out and push it together and hold it for a few min, keep pushing all around it, this is sealing it back up you melted the silicone again now you're letting it try and re- seal, and there ya go you got a sweet headlight

i think i'ma put the projectors on ebay, they have no backs on them, you can use your factory caps the grey things, i don't know how much i'ma sell em for though make me an offer

so what is behind that amber piece? Is it just a bulb? What will you see if you just fully remove that amber piece, and thats it? Damn, shuwa, i really like that silver for the insert, just might have to do the same :) And don't you have to remove the bumper to take out the headlights????

yes you have to remove the bumper to remove the headlight. I just this this mod while i was installing my hid's. It's real easy but i would suggest adding a little silicone into the edge before puting them back together. and yes 200 degs is the perfect temp. they will pull apart after about 15-20 min after being in the oven. There will be no need to pry them open, they will open with just pulling them apart...........

Ok, so whats behind that amber piece???? From the pic, it looks like another cleaish lens is behind that amber piece, and the bulb is in that clearish piece..is that right??

if you dont want to open up the headlight assembly just cut the back of the assembly with a dremmel or something.. break the amber, seal it back up and your good to go.. it only too me 30 mins each side..

i took out my headlights without taking off the bumper.. im pretty sure that you dont need to take out the bumper to get the headlights out..

and the amber piece is behind the clear piece.. so when you take out the amber piece, the clear one is still there.

cool, i'm gonna have to do that, esp since my passenger headlight has a small leak somewhere, everytime i wash it or it rains, i get mad condensation in there..looks like crap..i really dig the silver bezel inside of it too..it will match my car :)

Shawn...i like the finished product, thanks for the advise....any condensation yet? O, i like the mesh in the fascia vents, did you make that or buy it that way? i'm looking for the vent pieces, i have the grill craft center and would like the vents to match...looks good man....

shuwa not shawn. the refletor is behind the clear part of the head light. it looks so much better without it. that is my street fighter front and i painted the grill also. it was black and came with the kit. let me know if there's anything else.

I took the orange out of my factory headlights too, but I just took some needle nose pliers and a sharp pick to break it all out. It took a while, but looked sweet. Too bad they broke in the accident :(
I also put in some red LED's in the bottom of the high beam part for my alarm. At night when my car was remote started or armed, it looked like I had red strobe lights.... it was hella sweet! :)
I still have the cracked case if anyone wants to see what I am talking about.

i put in some yellow/gold bulbs. they look really nice at night. they go with the fog lights pretty good.

Hey Guys... Just wanted to let you know (4 those of you that are still skeptical out there) I just finished doing this procedure up and it worked like a charm ! 200 degress in the oven for 20 minutes and just pryed apart the projector, removed the amber reflector, did the whole thing again "backwards" etc... in all short... piece of cake !

shuwa, the pic you posted earlier in this thread, are those the factory lights that came with your eclipse? my headlights look similiar... or maybe im just seeing things... ;)

yeah they are factory. i just painted the black inner housing to an aluminum finish and that's how it looks.

Hey, personally I didn't have to remove the bumper in order to remove the Headlights, but, to my understanding it ALL depends. Guys, correct me if I am wrong, but if you have never, ever, ever, removed the headlights before and your car is 100% factory stock (as far as the bumper and headlights I mean) you must remove the bumper in order the remove the headlights. However, once you have removed the bumper and the headlights once, the next time yo wanna remove your headlights you don't have to remove the bumper... Kinda confusing... I know ! But I hope you get the idea.

In any case, you might wanna check Kaptain_Mike's writeup on "Front Bumper Removal/ Aftermarket Front Installation" since it explains also how to remove the headlight assembly... Here's da' link (Hey Kaptain'... I hope you don't mind):

See, i read that, and it says in order to get the last 2 bumper bolts out to fully remove the bumper, you have to take out each headlight, which means the headlihts have to come out before the bumper. I have all stock front end, never removed before. I really just need to take out the passenger Head L because its got a leak somewhere and had mad condenstation in there...

that is cyan's how to from the main page, the same one that i used when i was swapping to the 97-99 headlights/bumper.. it says to remove the headlights first. thats what i did.. maybe it was different for the 95-96s, but i dont think it is.

i have 95-96 headlights...i have to take em apart to get the condensation out of my drivers side...i am going to take the amber out and was thinking of painting the housing either red or black. my question is for those of you that have done this, what kind of paint did you use? and will it effect the refection of the light inside the headlight and make it not as bright or anything like that? possible reducd visability?? any help is appreciated. thanks in advance!

id like to know this as well.. shuwa?

i used hi temp black and its worked out fine. I don't see how painting the housing a different color could cause any adverse effects, unless you paint the reflectors (or whatever the mirrory part is called)

i too used a high temp. engine enamel. the finish is aluminum and since you are not touching the chrome reflector surface on the headlight then your visibility will stay the same.
