22075, power windows and locks Posted by USAF96, May-10-02 08:38 PM
Hey guys, I have an RS, does anyone know how expensive it would be to put power windows and locks in it, and could I just get the door panel with the power switches from a junk yard and have them use that? Thanks

All I can tell you is that Power Unit itself cost $278. A piece ! That of couse being brand new "outta da' box" @ satan. Believe me...I wanted to replace the little power windows caps and the guy at satan told me that those caps came only with the whole Power Unit and that was the cost ! Consider also that's not including the Door Panels which I believe you would need to change (guys, please correct me if I am wrong) and I think that you would need also to buy the 'power' cables 'cause they are NOT included in the Power Unit stuff. That is... of course, assuming that the RS model don't have the cables already in them (which could be possible since in GS models we do have the Power Seats cables but no Power Seats) :wary
Just my 2 cents... although I could be wrong ! Guys ?

I thought about going this route too. But then I found a power window and lock kit from SPALLS. Looks 'ok' but I have PW and PL now.

Go to a junkyard and try and find the factory power lock/window switches. Be sure to cut off the wiring harnesses to both, and leave some slack of wire on them. You can use the factory switches for aftermarket door lock actuators, and aftermarket power window kits. For door locks, all you have to get is one lock actuator per door, hook it up to the door lock rod, and then wire it to the factory lock switches. Spal makes a good power window kit, and you can wire that up to the factory swithces also. The only thing about the window kit,is that they include a black cap to go over the window crank gear, so you will see that from inside the car, buts thats it. This will be the cheapest way to do it...but if you can find the whole door innerards at a junk yard, you can take out the power door locks and windows and use the door panel also..But either way you do it, you will have to run wires into the doors, i don't think they are prewired from the factory..
