Hey guys, I want to paint my stock brake calipers but don't want to take them off the car. I have high temperature engine spray paint (500 degrees). I heard of people spraying the calipers while they're still on the car. Is that okay? To me the brakes (especially the rear ones) have a lot of parts that look as if they shouldn't be painted. Or should i just spray it into a cup and paint it on with a paint brush? Thanks for any input.

Would i also have to use a primer before i paint? The spray can says "engine enamel with ceramic". Its the Duplicolor brand. Thanks again.

I left the calipers on to paint my front ones (didn't do the backs). All I did was made SURE everything was covered - to do it just cut up a garbage bag then put it over the brakes, fender and some of the car so no overspray or anything gets on them.

I used some stuff specially made for brake calipers - probably same as the engine paint. All I did was clean the calipers really good then spray a couple coats on. So far no chipping and they have been through a harsh winter.

i left the calipers on too. just tape everything off. make sure to clean as much as possible. do several coats and you should be fine. i did mine about year and a half ago. and when i wash my car, it still looks good.. they could prob use another coat or two, but after a year and a half.. what do you expect.

Judges at a local show gave me tips after I got judged. High temp paint sucks man. It's watery (sp). Or the stuff I have found is. Here's what they said do, and it worked badass. No pics yet, but take high temp primer, and clear. Then get any paint you wanna use. I used this stuff like candy apple blue with silver metal flake. Primered it, sprayed, and then sprayed until I liked the color, then cleared. My brakes are way more noticeable now and look a lot brighter and cleaner. I tried the same on my bolts to my heat shield tho, and it burnt the paint off. I polished the heat shield. But, it held up nice on my brakes. High temp primer, whatever paint, and high temp clear, and your good.

if u got the duplicolor metal cast stuff they just came out with, I saw an ad, but know nothing about it. Not sure, but a lot of high temp paints say for you to bake the part to cure the paint. So, I dunno what to tell you.
