today I was pulling out of a parking lot, put it in first, wasn't applying any pressure on the shifter and boom, thing just pops off of the pivot point, anyone ever have that problem? or do I need to just get a titanium shifter :)?

well, I'm 6'0 250 lbs, but damn mitsubishi! make stronger steel, and so my baby is sitting over there all lonely at the dealership getting her new shifter, gonna have them put on my new power steering pulley while they're at it, btw, Imma try and take pics, it's funny as hell

What's the deal with you're power steering pulley? Mine is rattling a little bit right now and it's driving me nuts, the pulley's loose it looks like. What the hell do I need to tighten the thing up? I tried the bolt going through the center of the pulley but it's tight already.

yea, they said there was a recall on the 99 GS Eclipses saying the power steering pulley was inadequate, so they'll replace it for free, as for the shifter I'm starting to get pissed, theyre now telling me, oh no, it's not under warranty, you have to pay us 126 bucks, SCREW that, what all comes in those OBX short shifter kits? does it replace the entire housing or what?

back to the original question. i brok emy pivot point too. it's about $27 at the dealershit. it's mad easy to install so don't have them do it. the bolt that holds the lever to the pivot point broke. happend to me too. if you need a quick fix you can pull the bolt out and put it in backwards and tighten it back down.

short shifters come with just the lever unless you get the 300 dollar neuspeed one that changes the pivot point. the neuspeed one is like a whole new assembly

MAN I THOGUHT I WAS THE ONLY ONE!!!!!!!!!!........I did that about 2 weeks ago......i snapped it off where it was welded..the rod that the shifter slides onto cracked off where it was welded to the assembly....and yes the OBX replaced what i broke it comes with e actaul shift stick and the other full piece it slides onto....but THERE IS A HUGE backorder....unless u go through ebay I guess....but i got store credit so i gotta wait almost a month...right now I'm scouting out junkyards and have it DSM rigged for right now.....but yeah I ripped it out goin from first to second AND i wasnt even racing....but hey impressed my two freinds...lol....never even heard of it happening to anyone else til iread thid post..LOL

Stop getting ripped off. Go to your local junkyard. Remove shifter from eclipse wreck. (cant be more than $25) Take shifter to a local muffler shop. "Hey do me a favor rite quick, I'll slip you $10-$15 if you cut this in half for me and weld it back" Bam, custom short shifter. Dood you will never see/feel/know the difference of a OBX or a B&M short shifter or a stock modded shifter ever. End of story. Its all hidden under your colored shift boot that u can buy from a member on 2gnt, hahaha (damn I made like 3 promos there)

hey mike not for nothing but if you tried to give someone 10-15 bucks to cut and weld a shifter up here in NYC they would laugh at you. They'll charge you that just to park your car at there place for that much. Remember ny'ers invented the handout payoff.................

So Mike, your saying theres not much of a difference between a cut and welded stock shifter or an aftermarket short shifter? Just want to be clear before I drop 100+ for an aftermarket shifter

see if anyone else will back up my statement, but ya that's my opinion.... u will never know the difference man, i promise... it's a shortened piece of metal! ur paying for name brands i think in a case like this... its all underneath the console, u dont see it.

yea, I finally got my car back from having the steering pulleys and bearings replaced, also slipped me a new belt, I Still dont think it drives the same, but oh well, me and my friend said fuggit and cut the shifter in half, rewelded, and rewelded the bolt back on to the pivot assembly, shifts HELLA good! I'm still going to get the OBX, ONLY reason is I dont trust welds, just an old superstition, but I like my stuff billet, but I've driven both and like Mike said, there's barely any difference, there is a minor difference in that the OBX has a little more resistance, but that's up to the driver's prerogative anyway

Is it the shifter that broke or the shaft it pivots on? Someone here had the shaft break off once. Had to buy a new one at like $40 I think.

well, shifter was bent, not the normal bend, one that I accidentally put on.......:), and pivot was cracked off, but we fixed those prollems

I broke my shifter too. My story is different though. I had just gotten a wisdom tooth removed(and I was awake through the whole thing too) I was driving home in mass pain and I was power shifing to hell and back, I got home and the shifter assembly fell in the console. I had to jerry rig the thing with a bolt untill I got my shortshifter.
