To remove the stock part the pilar is going to replace all you need to do is expose a lip and start tugging firmly. There are 3 or 4 pop-in clips (can't rememeber) as you can see on the pillar pod. Yank on that sucker till it comes off.

I just screwed my new pillar into the metal behind it and it turned out perfect.
