20768, Oil pan questions
Posted by TimACRcoupe, Apr-23-02 10:40 AM
I am currently doing research on upgrading the stock oil pan in my Neon and have a few questions about the pan used on the 420A Eclipse. First, are they the same? I want to build a cheaper alternative to the Moroso pan that still provides the protection of baffles and a windage tray.

If they are not the same, how are they under autocross cornering conditions - as far as oil starvation? I'm hoping they got a better pan design than our cars. You can run the Neon motor low on oil to protect the top end but then run the risk of starving it under hard cornering. If you run it high, you run the risk of aerating the oil at high RPM and breaking the stock valve train.

Any help would be appreciated!

Tim

Damn! You've got me beat by .4 1/10's in the 1/8 and 5 thousandths on the 60ft. :D

No, the Eclipse oil pan will not work on the Neon. This is due to the huge engine brace down the middle. Sucks, huh?

Yes, that does suck :( Looks like I will be hacking apart a stock Neon pan - or saving $300 for the moroso.

I hope to shave a little more off those 60' times when I get my Azenis down to the track. Those runs were made on 195/60 r14 Dunlop D60 A2's.

Thanks for the help...

Tim

:D

2620 lbs full interior, my 220 lb butt in the seat and a 1/4 tank of gas - light is good, unless you get hit by someone ;)
