1970, Question for BLKOUT on his spoiler
Posted by HeDog, Mar-10-01 05:17 AM
I've really been thinking about getting the 3000 type spoiler for my car and I've got some questions.

With the way that the spoilers front edges come down on the rear quarter panels on the car, what did you do with your radio antenna? It seems like the spoiler would go over the factory hole where the antenna should be.
Right now I've got the GS spoiler on and am curious if the 3000's mounting holes would match up with the factory holes.
I've seen guys move their antenna's to the top of the car, above the rear squirter, do you know where I could find an antenna like that?

Thanks,
HeDog

The Wings West spoiler doesn't cover the antenna hole. It has a little cut-out on the side where it goes around the antenna. The two side pieces don't use the factory holes, but they will cover them so you won't have to worry about seeing them. However, there will be a couple of big holes in the hatch after you remove the factory middle section. The WW spoiler doesn't use those holes, so you will need to get them filled and get the hatch painted. Hope this helps.

Joe,

Did you have to get the whole hatch repainted or were they able to spot-match it? (makes a big difference in cost)

Thanks man

I had my buddy spray it for me and he painted the whole hatch. You could probably get the hatch blended, I don't know for sure though. You will still have to get the whole hatch re-cleared for sure.

Thanks Joe.

I knew I would have to clearcoat the entire hatch, but I was hoping that I wouldn't have to paint the entire hatch again. Hopefully they can blend it to save some money.

Anyone have any idea how hard it is to blend a white pearl paint?

It should be pretty easy to blend. A lot of body shops will say they can't blend it and have to repaint the whole thing in order to make more money. But I found out a lot of shops actually just "say" that and end up blending it, then shooting a clear over it so its pretty much perfect.
