Hey Guys,

I finally got the dash and everything painted and put it back in, but now it seems like the paint rubs off. All I have to do is rub my hand against the dash and it turns black. Is there a sealer or something I can use?

what kind of paint did you use? I am currently painting my car, Im using Duplicolor. Then I use Duplicolor clear coat, and I clear coat the hell out of it. plus it makes it shine a little more, not quite so dull. btw how did you go about removing your dash? that is my next step.

Ok here's a pic of the glove compartment. It looks almost like its dirty but when you try to brush it off it just makes it look worse. I used Duplicolor Vinyl Spray Paint.

Did you scrub the plastic really well with soap and water befor you painted them? I used the same paint, and i have no probs yet. I just washed the stuff really good, and rinsed it good, dried it with paper towels, and then painted it, without touching the plastic with my hands too much. The oil on your hands can effect the adhesian a little. I had the same prob with the first pieces i painted, but i didn't clean them well enough. Then i redid them, and cleaned all the ohter pieces really well, and don't have any problems yet with it..

Yup I cleaned it and everything. Did you use any kind of sealer or anything?

ummm.. how long did you let it dry how many coats of paint, clear coat? if you want it shiny

Let it dry 24+ hours, 6-8 coats of paint but no clear coat cause I didn't want it glossy.

Use a flat black paint and then spray Dupli-color clear 500 degree engine enamel. It worked good for me, and its not shiny and it doesnt rub off.

6-8 coats is way to much paint. You only want to use just enough to give you full coverage. I used about 3 very light coats, and used a fourth coat for final coverage coat. I let each coat dry for about 10 minutes. When you use too much paint, it can build up too much, and when it dries, it can chip easily..which you found out..

Well I did 6-8 on the top of the actual dashbooard (these are very very light coats) probably took like 7 for full coverage. But on the glove compartment where I'm actually having the problem there is only 3.

dood on my top dash i only got one thin coat. i think u got too much paint there, padna.

i sprayed maybe 2 cans over the top dash, light and far away. The rest of the interior I did far away also, but more coats. I have maybe a total of 1-2 coats of everything right now, hence I am chipping a little bit, but mostly minor stuff (ie, the feet, the arms/hands areas.)

Remember, spray far away, yes u use more paint and cans that way, but its light and very even that way.
