Hey guys. Im new to the forum and I spent about an hour searching on what people have to say about interior painting. well, I didnt find the specifics of what I need. As of now Im finishing up most of the easily removable parts. The dash is my problem though. I dont want to paint it while its in the car. Does anyone who has done this, have any suggestions? Also, is my airbag going to deploy if I take the cover off? Thanks!

I would help you if I could but I left my dash in...I taped over the VIN # plate and taped the hell out of my windshield. I also put a tshirt over the steering wheel/column and removed my gauge assembly.

I really dont want to have to do that, Im afraid Ill get paint on my other sh*t

so was I, but once u get started, it's easy. Oh and I also used a small piece of 8" x 11" thick cardboard too.

:) Used that to get along cracks or corners, such as below on the sides, etc. near the carpet...

I took my dash out, not that hard. First off, I just took out everything I could outta the car. I took my steering wheel off too. Im not sure if u will HAVE to take it off for the dash to fit, but I think you will. For the steering wheel airbag, there are 4 bolts behind the wheel that hold it on. Take those off and the airbag should come out. It will then be attacked by a few diffrent connectors.....just unhook those. (BTW DISCONNECT YOUR BATTERY!!!) Then there is just one bolt holding the wheel on the column. Just unscrew that and pull on the wheel as hard as u can and it will come off.

For the pass. airbag, I kept mine in until I had the dash out. So all you have to do is disconnect one wire that hooks up the the airbag. I belive it is red/green.

Once airbags are unhooked, u should easily be able to locate every bolt that is holding down the dash. Dont forget the ones inside your 2 tweeters on the dash. Just pry the tweeters off and there is one screw behind each one.

Then you need to unhook a few wire connectors that go from your fuse holder location by your pedals to the various lights n shit n ur dash. if i remember correctly, I just unhooked 2 big connectors. It would be easier if you just pull your dash out as far as u can till the wires hold u back. Then you will know which ones need to be unhooked. Then just pull it out. I had my moms help me since i still had the pass. airbag in and it add's a lil weight to just the one size.

I dunno, it sounds kinda hard. But its not really. Took me maybe 3 hours to take everything outta my car and the dash.

Oh yah, get plastic bags and label what screws go to what thing. (gauges, cd player, anything that has screws to hold it down, label it. !!!!!)

So once the battery is disconnected you can just pop the top off the passenger side airbag?

well u can. but i just disconnccted the red/green wire that connects the airbag and then took the actual bag out when i had the dash out. Was easier to do it that way. If you wanna take it out while its in the car, I belive there are 4 screws u need to unscrew and it will be able to come out.
