ok i remember somebody posting that they used RIT DYE to dye there dash and interior stuff. well i found some of that stuff at wal-mart and was wondering how do you put it on? do you use the method that uses the boiling water or what and what do you put it on with? thanks

the rit dye can only be used on fabric, that i know of. it's fabric dye. i dont' remember how to do it but evan knows and a few other people know how to too.

i have just used it. i am dying my carpets and floor mats and it' looks great! i've used about 10 packets so far for the carpets. i want to do another coat and also do the back seats. but if anybody knows about the headliner, like how to take it out and all, let me know. that's the next order of business.

Hey, where can you get this stuff?? Preferably not online if i could, any local stores carry this? I would like to find a red dye that is very close to my red color of my car. I want to dye the center of my seats red, and the outsides black. Anyone know if they make this color?

RIT comes in a lot of colors, but I'm not sure on the specifics. It's pretty cheap so you can get some and try it out on an old t-shirt or something to get an idea, although the color of the fabric you are dying will make a diff. You should be able to get it at Wal-mart, like he said above (aren't they everywhere?) or if not try Kmart or even the grocery store.

Has anyone who's used this had any trouble with it bleeding onto your clothes when you're sitting on it, esp on a hot day?

Did you clean your carpet before dying it. I'm thinking about doing it too. On the headliner, I'm just replacing that, think it'd be less hassle than dye and alot quicker.

the headliner is simple...if you want to do it black:

take out the entire headliner..(a sheet of fiberbglass is ontop of the fabric you have on it n)

go ahead and rip off the old fabric..the tricky part, try to get the fabric off AND the foam underneath, this way you will not have to sand it off.(this is so its very smooth for when you put the new fabric on,no bumps)

goto your local fabric store or any car shop that sells headliner kits. just get the material in the color you want.

then buy some super 77 spray glue at your local hareware store, sears has them, you could probably get away with 1 can, but 2 is good.

spray the shit out of the headliner with the glue AND the back of the fabric

now place the uncut fabric sheet ontop of your headliner, push it down real good so its toching every surface possible. let dry 15-20 min

the just go ahead and cut out the holes you need, sunroof,visors etc.
if you want you could not even put the visors back in, this might look good..

then just put it back in and youre all set.

its easier then it sounds i did mine in one night w/ my friend it took about 2 hrs. and cost about $40 total

I have used this on my carpet, and it works great. I used black(on grey carpet) and it looks great. Definately use the liquid, its much easier to work with. I bought the powder first, and added very hot water, then put on carpet. The liquid was MUCH easier and faster than the powder. I dont have any pics, or I would show ya's. As far as the dash goes, I woldnt use it on that. Get paint for that. I used 'Duplicolor Vynal and Fabric' paint, and it worked great. You can get both of these as Walmart for very cheap.
