What do you guys think I should do get a autometer speedo and put it in a cluster gauge.... But I would love to get a digital speedo... does anyone know where to get one at?

Ha, good luck with trying to get a digital one to work. I have one and I have spent fucking hours trying to get that thing to work, I have come to the conclusions that we can't use one. Every wire that I try to tap into it either doesn't work or if the gauge does work it's about 20 mph off and it makes the car stall when coming to a stop (but it starts right back up). I am a mechanic at Dodge and I have spent hours going over the electrical manuals for the Eclipse and I have yet to solve the problem. I have asked people here a couple times but nobody reply's so I guess nobody has one. Unless someone knows the secret don't waste your money on a digital gauge!

Mine quit working sunday... Someone mentioned it was my speed sensor in the tranny. Sure enough 2 days later i got a CEL code 15 (speed sensor). New one from Satan is $62 and it comes with a harness.

It's on the back of the tranny and it's a bitch to get to. You have to take out the battery, and the intake and even after that it's still a bitch to reach.

Well, on the upside, if you are going to replace the speed sensor, you might as well do up the rear motor mount: it is right there. -=B-=

Not certain it is the speed sensor cause I havent got a cel 15 and the speedometer still works just not as accurate.... I took apart the bezel and unplugged the speedometer and the needle is kinda limp... it doesnt retract like the rpm needle anymore it just sits there and doesnt want to move Im thinking there is something wrong with the speedometer needle not the sensor.... My question now if I could get a whole new gauge instrument unit that replaces all gauges would that work? Not asking if it will solve the problem but will the gauges work if its a gauge unit from another car?

Well I finially figured out why we can't use a digital speedo gauge in our cars. It's kinda hard to explain but there absolutly NO way we can use one. I am going to school to get ASE certified and the class today was on advance electronics and we just happed to talked alot about vehicle speed sensors today and I asked the teacher and he explained why we can't use one. Most other car companies speed sensors read about 8000 pulses per minute, for some reason chrysler (which includes Mitsu) only uses 4100 pulses per minute. You need that 8000 pulses per minute to get away with using a digital gauge. That is why I was only reading half of the speed I was actually going and the car would stall when coming to a stop. That vehicle speed sensor also controlls the idle control motor, since I taped into the speed sensor it wasn't getting the full signal it need at the idle control motor, the car wouldn't know what to do when coming to a stop so it stalls.

Now that explains why my car has been stalling when i slow down... I am going to pull my speed sensor out tonight to see if that is my problem...
